I have my initial consultation on Wednesday. I will meet with the surgeon and staff to start the process toward surgery. Wish me luck and that insurance will approve the first time! Anyway have advise regarding psych eval? Does it really cost $200+ out of pocket? Thanks. Christi

Hi Butterfly66, i had my consult on 7/9 and was told my insurance would cover the Psych consult. Not all insurances do, they said mine happen to cover it. hope yours is covered too.

had my psych eval on 7/18 and you have to do a written test, True/False (240 questions), then meet with the Psychologist, she asked alot of questions and and was trying to dig deep to why i am over weight, at the end she said she recommends that i see a therapist to discuss and find out what triggers me to eat so much, but she said it is not required that i go, but she will ask that i provide her with a letter before they set my surgery date that i will be meeting with a therapist. someone in my support group said they dont follow up with that. either way, not a bad thing to know what is causing these triggers other then being hungry.

Good luck and welcome !

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
