1 Week Post Op..need Help:(

Recommended Posts

hey guys,

Exactly one week ago toady I was in my hopital bed recovering from my Lap RNY. but I am having trouble. I am sooo emotional :( I have started to get the "y" questions stuck in my head. On tueday when I did my 5 day post-op check I was happy I was done another 12 lbs since the day of surgery. I was started on the full liquids for 3 days. Tomorrow I start the pureed. I however have been having cream of wheat, yogurt, jell-o, Water, milk, shakes, but everytime I try to eat something I get horrible stomach cramps. I can literally feel the food going down and the pain travels from in the form of an S starting on my left side then middle, then right...etc.

My husband went back to work Tuesday, I am home alone since we have no kids or pets. I get so depressed. I feel really down and you can say lazy. I kinda slept in, didnt wanna get up at all. MY pain is getting better i usually dont have to take meds at all during the day. I end up taking it at night right before bed. I have kinda started on a pureed diet today. I pureed eggs today for lunch i tried a little however immediately got a stomach ache followed by cramps and with in minutes sent me to the BR. My husband called me on his break today and I was crying.

I kept saying I hate this, I shoudnt have done this, I cant eat anything, why, why why......i do know that in the future I probably wont feel like this but its depressing now. I see food commercials all day and i kow I cant have the same portions as before but I am seriously hunger. I keep asking WHy.....

COuld someone please tell me if they also felt this way>???? what helps??????

today was the first day I actually cried. Im usually pretty positive and in a very good mood. What were some of the pureed foods that you have done? any ideas? are you back to reg. foods? I have an appt on jul 17 and i beleive they will give me the ok to start eating mashed-solid foods and obviously limit my portions.

Lolipop...the meds they use to knock you out do some nasty things and hormones all change etc because of it as well. It's definitely not uncommon for folks to feel weepy or depressed after surgery. It will get better. Do yourself a favor and go for a short walk, grab a informational book about bypass surgery if you haven't read one yet and get lots more information. All the info we can get helps us with the process all along the way. I highly recommend Weight Loss Surgery for Dummies. My bariatric group recommended it and it's been very helpful and has some great ideas for each stage of eating.

As far as the pain, I highly suggest calling your surgeon's office and let them know. NO harm in it but, if something is wrong you'll know right away. I think it's your stomach getting used to having food again after it's gone through something very tramatic but, better safe to call your doc.

Also...are you chewing really well. Although puree'd it should be ok however, are you taking in too much? Drinking while eating? taking small enough bites or spoonfuls? Just a few suggestions. WE're all different and have different things that happen to us but, just a thought.

I hope the pain goes away for you. You are right......it's all going to get better!

It will get better! The 1st two weeks are the worst! I regretted my decision for rny every day. Now I'm 56 lbs down and so thankful. Just know this too shall pass!

I'm also one week post op. liquids that are working for me are sugar free carnation instant Breakfast, diet snake, crystal light, skim milk, chocolate Protein Shakes, chicken broth. pureed food - favorite us fat free refried Beans with low fat cheddar melted in it. I thin out the beans with chicken broth. I know it sounds nasty but it is 7 grams of Protein in 2 oz and tastes like a dip. Fat free/sugar free yogurt and small curd cottage cheese are also staples in my diet. I hope that gives you some ideas and I hope you are feeling better very soon - prayers and hugs :)

I am actually looking foward to the beans! I love them! I also like avocado so even making a small batch of guacamole and pureeing chicken on the side sounds delicious. I know it wont look so appetizing but I gotta do it. I also like tuna, how about the devils meat that comes in a tiny can... is that pureed enough you think> just a thought.... I like my veggies too like sauteed mushrooms with tomatoe, zuchinni and cheddar. any other ideas or recipies you can think of? thanks!

I lost 16 lbs before surgery. My surgery was 5/2/2012. I've lost just shy of 40lbs since surgery!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
