Junk Food Cravings

Recommended Posts

I'm 10 days out of surgery and every time I watch TV the food commercials drive me nuts, of course I won't stray but they're really bothersome. My parents are morbidly obese and constantly ordering fast food and eating junk in front of me so all I smell is the food that got me to 276 lbs. It's killing me. Will this go away? I don't want to crave junk anymore :[

It's not easy, as I still at two months post op crave just about everything I did before surgery. I watch food network like its an xxx movie and drool. Lol. But it gets a little easier. I have five children who are thin as rails and because their father and I were tiny kids and he still is, they are much smaller than most kids. They eat healthy and I do get them junk here and there because it's part of being a kid. It is really hard when they are eati g KFC and I'm wondering how long it would take me to take a bite before flying to the bathroom. It's all one big test. I've lost 50 lbs in the last seven weeks and it feels great. I tell people who like to say its the easy way out. You are forced to remain on the strictest diet for the rest of your life. Never a chance to stray because it will make you very sick. Just keep your head up. It will get easier in time, but right now your body is pouting like a two year old because it's being forced to burn its own stores. In time you'll find that if you take a bite of something you once craved, it just is not the same.

One thing that really scares me is when the time comes that I will be able to eat something junky and not dump. I have never dumped yet due to only being 10 days out and being strict but my brother is 5 years out (rny) and I've seen him eat chips, Pasta, mac n cheese, you name it! He never seems to dump unless he actually eats a big piece of ice cream cake or something ridiculously unhealthy. Just terrified of re-gaining

Right now your probably having head hunger I dealt with that for the 1st month after surgery! It's really hard to deal with just keep telling yourself why you had the surgery and don't give up you can do it!!

I used to be able to eat the junk but now I'm not able to and I've lost more weight not eating the junk than I would if all I ate was junk!! The key is moderation if you feel you want something that is considered junk tell yourself I will only eat 5 potatoe chips pick 5 out of the bag and go put the bag up go into another room and eat those 5 chips then 30 minutes later drink a glass of water! The desire to eat them is gone!

I'm not sure that I can put a time line on it but the cravings absolutely disappeared for me. I lived on junk food for years and other than an occasional turkey breast and black forest ham on flatbread from Subway, I haven't had any junkfood in over a year. I'm 35 weeks out and have lost 114 lbs and I truly have no desire for burgers and pizza and the mexican food I used to eat all the time. I think it has something to do with tracking calories and Protein and carbs and fat every single day for the last seven months. I just hate the idea of logging the calories and fat in double quarter pounder! LOL!!

For chip fans, try Kellogg Special K Cracker Chips. They taste great, 110 calories in a 27 chip serving, 2.5 g of fat and 2 g of Protein. A number of flavors including sea salt, sour cream and onion, cheddar, and southwest ranch. You can get them at Vons or even on Amazon. Great substitute for potato chips and I eat them instead of french fries!

I have in my mind I got fat from eating fast food so I don't want to go that round again. I want to have self control. Once every 6 months to have a slice wont kill me but I want to be in control so I don't get fat again well I'm not skinny but regain what I lost.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
