1 Week Post Op. Feel Like I Made A Big Mistake

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, I just joined this place. I got my GB surgery done 21/5 so its been a week yesterday. I live in Oman and there weren't many options to do this surgery elsewhere.

After reading about GBS recovery and food stages and Proteins, I am stunned. My doc asked me to drink no Protein supplements, no Calcium citrate! I am on a liquid diet till now that consists of Water, tea, normal juices, broths and Soup. I can drink anything I want without large quantities of sugar.

I asked him and the NUT about Protein intake, supps etc.. They said no extra supplements. And as for the puréed stage, eat what others are eating at home and just purée it. Nothing about protein first, nothing about no sugar. I am clueless on how to proceed. :(

Where is Omen? Is it in the states? In the UK they don't stress protein...

Your not suppose to have Protein till about three four weeks out. That's what my surgeons office told me. You don't want to put too much in pouch since it is still healing for the first six to eight weeks post surgery.

Sorry I was told not to do Protein shakes is what meant to say. They told me it was to thick and heavy for first few weeks. I did puréed Beans mostly during that stage.

I'm learning that not every doctor is on the same page :) we're taught Protein is THE most important thing your body needs. Even before the surgery. In school I was taught your body NEEDS Protein to survive. When I had my son his pediatrician drilled PROTEIN into my head when he began solid food.... So it's a little odd for me to hear doctors not advocate the necessity of protein post op..... BUT like I said, not all doctors are the same and being on this board and another one I've learned.. They're ALL different.

Plus protein doesnt have to be in a "shake" put a scoop in your milk with a little carnation instant Breakfast stir it up ... Just like flavored milk.. and just as smooth. :)

Nice ill take puréed Beans lol . I'm on liquids still. But aren't puréed Beans thicker than a shake?

Well I am Hispanic so what I did is make a pot of beans. I didn't do canned. So I would add more of the liquid to make them less thick.

I bought muscle milk, though the taste makes me want to throw up, there's not much choice here

If you can get it shipped to Saudi, try powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury.com, it was the only protien I could stand after surgery. They even have a starter kit, a couple of sample packs of each flavor they offer.

As far as should or shouldn't you... You have decades of living to do, take time and let yourself heal, get to know your new body, and trust your instincts more then what you 'hear you should do'. Your body will tell you if it's not ready for something loudly, clearly, and quickly, lol.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
