I started my journey at 350!! I was 18 years old & I felt my life was worthless. I hates waking up in the morning & I avoided leaving my house at all costs (I didn't even realize this at the time)! I'm now 6 months out as of today!! My life as completely changed, I have this long called confidence, I want to wake up & start my day & best of all I hate being stuck in the house! Well here's my six month progress pics! The one that's a picture of a picture is the one my nut took a day before my surgery!

Katie, You look marvelous!! Wow you are an inspiration to all the young girls struggling with extra weight. I am so happy to hear that you look forward to getting out of the house. There is a whole wide world out there waiting to be explored. Keep up the good work.

Hello Nikkia,

First, you have lost 106 pounds wow - and your just over 1 year out. Congrats on making it this far! You do not want to fall back into old patterns or go backwards and start gaining.I have 4 basic rules! (1) My no no are sodas - diet or regular. I have not picked up a can since the day before my surgery. I pretty much only drink Water every day. (2) My must have is logging food. I am uncomfortable eating more than a cup of food for one meal and on average I eat about 1,000 calories a day. You can log it in online or on your phone - I prefer the free app my fitness pal. (3) Exercise. I don't mean run a marathon or become a gym bunny. This is a life style change. You have to find something to do for a min of 15 mins a day to start. You can walk in place, dance. Walk around your backyard. Hula hoop, wii, ANYTHING. This isn't about burning the calories, this is getting your body use to the new you and away from sedentary lifestyle. I have fibromyalgia, Migraines and auto immune. Exercise is the hardest thing for me, but I know before the end of the day I will make my body move for at least 15 mins! Sometime I literally walk in place or do circles in my backyard. (4) No Trigger Foods - mine is bread. I don't eat it. I don't buy it. I eat open face sandwich, just the toppings on a pizza. I stay away from the thing that cause me to gained weight and something I can not resist!

Protein issue - I still have a hard time getting in my protein, but when I want to drop or break a stall I do about 70 grams a day. The thing that helped me was powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury unflavored protein - you can mix it with anything and it gives you an extra 20 grams. My other favorite is a cup of coffee at the end of the night - I use fit frappe by a company name train. They have all kinds of flavors - But with Protein!!

On a good day this is my schedule.

Protein Bar - 21 grams / 1 gram sugar

snack - yogurt 15 grams

lunch - tuna to go 15 grams

Snack - Eas Protein shake + Unjury unflavored protein 38 grams

dinner - (this changes daily)

coffee - 10 to 20 grams

Boom!! That's almost 100 grams of protein, right around 1,000 to 1,200 calories a day!!

Ok, so I am 2.5 weeks out and trying my damndest to get at least 60 grams of protein...but today I only ate 256 calories. And 40 gm of Protein. I'm just not hungry. And I have all the energy in the world. Cleaned and rearranged today. And tidbits of advice from the vets? And by the way 18.5 lbs down :)

You are doing Great!!! I think at 2 weeks I was getting about 100 calories and 5 grams of protein! The recovery process in the beginning is hard - sounds like you are in track!! I was not hungry until about 7 months.

Do you do shakes? With just 2 shakes a day made with milk you'd have 60 or so grams. I am 6 months out and still do shakes or drinks everyday to make goal.

I indulge in a cup of coffee in the a.m. and put the Protein hot cocoa in it....instant mocha! And haven't had a second during the day but I guess I should start. It's just so stinking easy to forget to eat when you're not hungry. Thanks everyone for the feedback. I love this group!!

Dorm times I feel the same way. It's a mental thing. I fit into 16's but I still see the 24 body. Keep your head up

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
