Like another poster said, everyone will be different, but this is how it went down for me:

Controlling your emotions and eating hard those first 3 weeks? Everyone made fun of me (in a fun way) because I cried all the time over everything, even though I knew it was stupid. I would laugh and cry at the same time. I called it a surgery side effect - which has finally stopped - I haven't cried in weeks. I had no interest in eating until week 3 or so and by then I was happy to get to slurp Soup. It was a week into Soup that I had had enough and I wanted real food. it gets hard sometimes, but that's when you have to dig deep and stay with the program.

1 oz of Water every 15 mins? Was that hard? It was for me because I was never a Water drinker to begin with. Even now I set my alarm to go off every hour to remind me to drink.

Protein - you need 40 grams a day at first (then it goes up) I drank choc Protein shake 20g (took forever to get it down). Then water with New whey Liquid Protein (walmart carries it). Its flavored - grape or watermelon - not too tasty but OK enough to get down.

Buy a huge container of Protein for shakes. . is that good enough? Buy enough to get you started, but not too much, you may not like that kind. I find I like the premade shakes better - less foamy and thick.

Bed ridden? I would not say bed ridden, but I took my pain meds and slept a lot the first week. I could walk a few laps around the house several times a day, but I couldn't go to the store or anything.

What Vitamins do you have to take our do they suggest? I take a chewable Multi-Vitamin (Centrum Silver was the only chewable I could find, even though Im NOT silver... yet). B12 drops and D3 drops.

How long should you wait to have sex? My doc said 2 weeks - I probably waited 3 just because my tummy was still a bit tender and I was worried... but everything was fine when I finally gave into my hubby's crying and begging haha

How bad is the Constipation? I have not gone on my own since surgery, but it never hurts - not enough food to really build up I guess. Every few days I take MOM and it flushes it all out.

Has anyone slipped and taken ibuprofen? I take liquid Tylenol. I hate taking pills anyway, so I just bought some liquid at walgreens.

Great questions - I hope these answers help!

I am preop, and having my food funeral over the next few days. My preop diet starts Tues. I will have a total of 8 weeks of liquids only, this will take me thru Turkey day. I imagine that I will be having these moments as well. On a happy note, I do not have to prepare Turkey dinner and watch everyone eat it lol.

Oh, bed ridden! Sorry, I should have figured that out. Naw, I wasn't bed ridden, not even in the hospital. I refused to get in the hospital bed except to sleep at night. I even napped sitting up in the glider chair in my room.

Being at home taking care of myself was fine. I wasn't going to be cleared to drive for the first week so I made sure I had everything I needed on hand. I had a lifting restriction of 10 lbs, and I knew I wasn't going to be up for really heavy housework like mopping or vacuuming, so I got my housekeeper to come for an extra visit to take care of that, change the kitty litter, etc. I napped a lot for the first two weeks and took it easy but I didn't have issues with mobility or taking care of my basic needs. :)

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
