Drinking while Eating

Recommended Posts

Hmmm. Ok. Thanks! So is it safe to assume that no one here was able to get all the Protein in during week 1-2 post op?

After day three I got in 60-80 grams in daily with Protein shakes, averaging 70. I just checked MFP to see.

I was able to get in 70grams a day, but I had to begin at 8 AM and drink until about 2 AM.

My Dr. told me not to worry about Protein at all for the first couple weeks - just hydration. That's the most important thing. :-)

I'm day 10 post-op. Lately, I've been getting 60-80 grams a day ( 3 sessions of 20-29 gram drinks per day). But I focus those over pure Water (since they;re all liquids), so maybe I'm not getting enough pure Water. I'm at least as hydrated as I was pre-op (which may not have been ideal either, I wager), but the last few days really opened up for me and I can drink more often for longer.

I'm a little worried I've done something wrong because at a movie last night, I got down a 29g Premier Protein shake (11Oz, 29g) and most of a large glass of water (must have been 20 Oz), which seems like too much for 2 hours... but I wasn;t feeling full or in any discomfort.

Worried I might be stretching the sleeve without knowing it though...

Omg, I feel the same. I have been struggling to get liquids in until the last couple of days, like yesterday: I had a Premier Protein in under an hour (11oz) and a little bit of Water. I'm worried I'm stretching it too

Drinking while eating or too soon after eating has caused sliming and puking for me.

I am almost three months out... Haven't 'barged' yet but I have come close. What is sliming? I've read it a couple times on here and just curious...

My mouth fills with thick saliva and I feel like I need to spit, and a bit gaggy.

In these first 2 weeks I spit all the time. I feel like I have more saliva than ever.

My Dr. told me no drinking a half hour before and after eating as you will wash the nutrients through and not absorb them. Also will intake more than you should in the beginning. That is one thing I am having a hard time with.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
