They had me a surprised intervention.

Recommended Posts

Most of my friends and family members know about my surgery and two of my close coworkers. One of my coworkers who didn't know about my sleeve has witness me eat and throw up right after a numerous of times. I am down 60 pounds so its noticeable that I am losing weight. Well she told some of my bosses and they were all concerned and called me in to a meeting to address my eating issues lol. They said that I don't eat much and then throw up right after, they gave me treatment options and information. The 2 people who knew about the surgery were laughing, they didn't say anything because it wasn't there news to tell. I had to tell them about my surgery. Guess the cats out of the bag. Their faces were priceless.

There hearts were in the right place.

may i ask why are you throwing up after you eat ? I'm only 2 weeks out but I didn't think this was common ?

I really don't know. My surgeon told me maybe I am eating too fast and not chewing enough but I don't think that's the case. I am really starting to hate to eat. I am now on Zofran for the vomiting.

I had an ultrasound and a cat scan plus blood work and it all looks normal. I get sick at least 4 times a week two times a day.

I get sick after eating sometimes too. My dr is sending me for xrays and endoscopy to check for stricture or blockage. I do find that eating too fast, too much, or bite too big will all cause vomiting. So does drinking too soon after meals. Love the intervention story, that's priceless.

A lot of people do not experience this. I do not and I am almost 4 weeks out. But keep this in mind because anyone who has this surgery its a real possibility.

Does that happen with everything you eat or specific foods? Run through your process. Are you eating slowly, and chewing enough and waiting the required amount of time to drink?

For me, even if I do all that perfectly I still occasionally get sick....I try to measure it just right, but sometimes I overshoot it.

I am preop, so I have no experience with this situation, I only know that my surgeon, my NUT and my therapist all stressed the importance of not throwing up. At each appointment they said that vomiting risks perforation.

Yes I don't have a trigger food. Sometimes if I wait to long to eat I will get sick after I eat. I eat less than 4 oz and I chew more than necessary. I have 3 meals with 2 Protein drinks for Snacks.

Example of meals.

Breakfast. String cheese half of a hard boiled egg.

lunch tuna plain

dinner 2 bites of chicken grill and maybe 2 green Beans.

What you're doing seems pretty normal and not something that should cause the problems you're describing. Maybe another doc's visit would be good....maybe they need to do another barium swallow or something?

You may be eating too much in one sitting. Try measuring out everything and eating single portions. Like one string cheese and no egg.

I experienced the vomitting when I ate something my new tummy was not fond of like EGGS! or when I ate something before it was time...I wanted to see what was tolerable and found very early that everything is better in stages!! It's alot better now but it will happen if I eat something untolerable, too fast or drink too soon after eating. So I wait at least 45 mins to an hour.

I don't finish the string cheese :)

I don't keep time on my Water. I am going to start doing that see if it helps

I am 11 months out and if I eat something that is hard to digest I can throw up still....I cannot eat beef or pork yet. I have trouble with fried anything even if I take the coating off, and of course the skin...Chinese food I won't even go there..It hates me now...

I stay away from these foods and give it time..I'll try them again later and see if they will suit me...If they don't that's okay...There are a lot of other things to eat so I am okay with these changes....

One thing you might do to see if it would help is to cut any food you eat into pieces no larger than a pea. I strongly recommend that you not eat string cheese directly from the stick, but instead cut it into bites as well.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
