I'm six weeks post op and have been dealing with every side effect you can imagine (plus a few more.) I have regretted this surgery since mere hours after waking up in the recovery room. I'm still struggling daily but after taking some pictures today I finally feel like I can do this, like all the pain and problems are going to be worth it. I'm only six weeks out and I've lost 45 pounds, 22 total inches, and 9 points off my bmi. I just feel the need to share :)

Well it's a very long story lol but the short version is, I can't tolerate fluids very well, I average 12-18 ounces max a day, so I have to get iv fluids every four days. I developed a stricture where my stomach empties, it empties at the pace of an iv drip, it's not completely obstructed but they have me do a swallow test every week to make sure it's not getting worse. I developed a soy intolerance at 8 days post op. I developed a total animal Protein intolerance at three weeks post op. I'm not able to eat or drink anything without being in immense amounts of pain. My liver is not working right. I developed ulcers. Just a lot of things. Mentally I am a complete wreck. I have been trying to keep a positive outlook but everything stacking up like this Has made it difficult. I try to smile and pretend everything is fine, so the only one (besides my doctor and his staff) who knows what I'm going through if my fiance, everyone else thinks that I am happy with it all.

Wow! That is a lot to do through. All the difficulties you have had and you don't have any regrets? I really hope that everything works out soon for you. That is a lot to deal with on top of your surgery.

Honestly I've regretted it since I woke up in the recovery room. I've finally started to be happy that I had the surgery. If I knew all this and could go back in time I would never do it over again. I'm hoping that feeling changes the farther post op I get.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
