I quit smoking 3 days ago, on Friday, Oct. 18, 2013. At my PA visit. He asked if I smoked, and how much, and I said 3-4 per day, and he told me how it impedes healing and can cause the stomach to leak. That was it! Left that appointment, and tossed my brand new pack (and lighter) in the garbage bin on the hospital can on the way out. Not looking back. Just hoping my past smoking doesn't delay the surgery any!

Hey there caligirl 3 my last smoke was Friday, October 18th as well!! I originally had quit in 1993 but I smoked regularly the last two months. Don't ask me WHY I started smoking again--I have no clue. I have my final NUT appointment this afternoon and I've already recieved my psych clearance. I pray every day to have this surgery the second week of December. I have one more stepping stone--my upper GI to check for a hiatel hernia. I thought I'd better quit so I'd be able to honestly say to the NUT my last cigarette was Friday. Next stepping stone caffeine. I think my normal 5-6 cups of morning coffee is going to be harder than the smokes. I'll skip, hop wear purple everyday--WHATEVER it TAKES to make the surgery a sucess.

Sending positive prayers and wishes to all who are closer to their surgeries.

I'm at the same point as you... Had my NUT, Dr. visit, Psych Eval, and they're submitting to ins. today. Praying I don't have a 6 month wait (diet), because I too want this in December or first week of Jan.

smoking restrict blood vessels; which are critical to healing. Imagine the complications if ur body can't heal... (i.e rupture, infection, etc)

My doctor is requiring me to quit dipping. I have to be quit at least one month prior to surgery which will be in January or February 2014. I've been substituting non-tobacco, non-nicotine dip for my regular dip. I've cut my nicotine dipping in half already and shouldn't have a problem completely doing away with the dip. By the way; I've dipped for 35 years, and yes, I still have all of my teeth and they aren't yellow. lol

My surgeon requires you be quit for 90 days, I'm only a month away from surgery and I broke down and smoked does anyone know if they can check for nicotine more than 30 days out?

My doctor wants you to quit but doesn't check. You know what got me to stop? He said that it makes you significantly more likely to have loose skin after surgery. When I heard that, I was done.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
