Still so undecided :(

I've been contemplating the Gastric Sleeve but I'm scared the surgery won't go right. What if I have leaks etc. Any advice on nervousness? Is this normal?

I think fear is normal for a lot of people. I'm not one though. I am ready to change my life, 1000%.. My aching knees, feet and back as well as my history with "female" cancers has erased any and all reservations and fears I may have had..

I read all the success stories here, so all the before and pictures, the smiling faces, the reports of better health and happiness and I know there is nothing to fear but fear itself..because after all what is left.. I've tried this on my own for the whole of my entire life and it has not worked, or let's say I have not been able to sustain any weight loss I've accomplished. I know this isn't a magic bullet, but I do know myself enough to know, it's a life changing surgery, not to be taken lightly, but to embraced and honed..for a better quality of life for me and those I love...

Take all the time you need to think about it,..because in the end, you will have to live with it... weight the pros and the cons..and come to your decision.

Good luck.

I am 6 days out from surgery. I was scared to death. Friends tried to talk me out of it. I am doing fantastic. Only take a pain pill at night. None all day. I am walking and have my follow up on 10/1. Think about what will happen if you don't have the surgery. I am only 310 now 295 and had sleep apnia, high pressure, pain in knees and hips, miserable, and very unhappy. I chose to take control of my life and glad i did.

Fear is common amongst us all. We are human and afraid of the unknown. I stopped being nervous/scared once I woke up from the anestsia.

Trust all your research in the sleeve and your surgeon selection.

I was sleeved on 8/26/13 and am very happy with the results so far. I'm angry I waited so long.

Good luck!!

It's very normal to be scared and will be second guessing yourself. Do your research and be prepared to make the best decision possible.....It is worth it in the long run. :P

I have all of the same feelings of fear but know this is the right path for me. One more nut visit and my case will be submitted to insurance.

Still pretty effing scared ...

I am a natural worrier so of course I was scared but what helped me tremendously was all the research I did. I knew what to expect, when to expect it, what to do about it if something should come up, what signs to look for (positive and negative) and because of all my research I felt very prepared and it really eased my worries. To me its just natural to investigate and research something so serious as surgery as much as possible but Im not like every one else Ive come to learn. When I went to the seminar, I already knew the answers to my questions and was puzzled that the folks there hardly knew anything. Knowledge is power and you can get loads of knowledge from the folks here. So read read and read some more :)

I think it best to look at the numbers in these cases. I won't quote the statitistics as its something you should research, but suffice it to say the results vs risks come out very favorably for the surgeory. I'll leave it at that as you should research and decide for yourself.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
