Is there anyone who DIDN'T lose their hair?

Recommended Posts

I know there has been many topics about Hair loss and I know that hair loss should really be a very minor problem to the huge benefit of surgery and weight loss...But but but, I really love my hair! Ha ha... Just curious if everyone loses their? Most lose their hair? Or, some lose their hair?

I lost hair, but not that it was noticeable. I do have a lot of hair, which helped, but my hair stylist was on high alert and he let me know any loss I had was minimal.

I haven't lost any of my hair. I think I mostly attribute this to the fact that when I was cleared to start purée and soft foods 2 weeks post op, I ate clean, wholesome food. I never ate fat free/low fat or sugar free. I would cook my own grass fed meat and have it with avocados or when I cooked eggs I made sure to use a bit of coconut oil or butter. When I puréed butternut squash, I roasted it in a tsp coconut oil first. In my first two weeks post op I couldn't tolerate a stitch of Protein and all I had was very diluted lipton ice tea. That was all I couldn't tolerate. I only started Biotin after 8 weeks post op. Everyone is so different but I have been lucky. I'm now 7 months post op and still not a stitch of Hair loss. I have also highlighted my hair twice since surgery with no problem. I use loreal professional Shampoo so nothing special in that either!! Don't sweat the small things and it will all turn out ok.

I lost a lot of hair but had thick mane so it's OK. Worse is the fact that 4 months out have only lost 20 pounds, feel dizzy and unable to function most of day. Two patients had same problem but I didn't listen. Soooooo obsessed with not being fat.

I'm close to suicide to be over this. DON'T DO iT!! Before the surgery, I enjoyed life. Now I just hope I die in my sleep or hope a crazy sniper kills me

Am I reading this correctly? Suicide? Dying in sleep? I'm so confused. Regardless of how we look on the outside, we each hold a beauty so profound. Yes, there are things we cannot do or maybe just too lazy but that should be your motivation. I can't wait to have surgery. I want to go on a cruise and travel. You say you only last 20 pounds in 4 months but that's 20 pounds less with the surgery. If you need to talk please inbox me. Hugs from NY my sister sleever.

I lost very little hair. but just know that 20 lbs is better than no pounds at all. Hang on there, it will get better. Try doing some cardio which will help you with your weight loss. Good luck & I'm routing for you!

I managed to keep all my hair until the four month mark. I am now six months out and the shedding has stopped and I'm just not so patiently waiting for regrowth. I had painfully thin and fine hair to begin with so every single strand is precious to me! Currently my hair is about as thin as it was when my hypothyroid was untreated and at its worst.

This scares me so much for you. I hope that you take the time to find someone to talk to so that you can resolve the physical issues that you are having along with the psychological pain that you are experiencing.

You have a beautiful grandchild to live for and you will get better if you work at it. You have a long beautiful road ahead of you, it sounds like you need a little help finding your way there.

I'm 4 1/2 months out, and no Hair loss (yet, knock on wood). I was able to get my calories up to average of 900 per day pretty early on with good clean food. I have half an avocado in a green smoothie every day (my smoothies also have green leafy veggies and fruit). I take Biotin daily, and early on i was able to meet my Fluid and Protein goals. I have a lot of hair so if i lose some it is all good.

But i am hoping that i will be like sanks51!

Yes I definitely attribute my hair not falling out due to good clean food and a little bit of healthy fat.. At least two of us didn't loose hair :)

Interesting, I also have a diet rich in clean and healthy fats though I had not previously made a connection between that and my great hair! It seems like they could be connected though. I didn't take Biotin or anything like that and use a standard salon range of products (KMS) so nothing special. I also continued cutting, dying, and styling my hair as normal.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
