Small Rant on Doctor Not Having Enough Staff

Recommended Posts

I would like to preface this with knowing I don't have much patience. However, right now I am so frustrated. I finally finished the last class that the doctor's office required of me. It was taught by my original dietitian. She said to call the insurance coordinator. I did that today and received a message that she only works MWF. What the...?! Keep in mind, every time I have gone to the doctor's office, it is busy with patients and there is always an hour wait at least. Also, when you call the insurance coordinator, you get a message about how she is really busy and not to leave multiple messages. If she is that busy, why don't they hire someone else to come in, or at the minimum, have her work 5 days a week???! I am not expecting to be approved tomorrow and realize there is a wait. However, if they require me to go to all these classes and pay for them, it would be nice to have someone actually there to submit my claim.

I know I am being a little snarky, but I am trying to get the surgery done by the end of the year to avoid paying another $5k deductible, And once it is approved, I don't know how long before they can schedule surgery. Even when I have asked them point blank how long it takes to schedule surgery once approved, they said it would depend, and wouldn't even give me a ball park estimate.

I am just so frustrated right now! Am I the only one that finds this whole process frustrating??!

I feel your pain.

Thankfully my experience wasn't similar, but I understand not wanting to have to fork out the money for the deductible again. The best you can do is follow their instructions and work out your frustrations at the gym instead of with food.

Kill them with kindness. It's easier to say than do, I know.

I can assure you, you are not the only one!!! I am also frustrated but due to different reasons. If I had to wait an hour to see the doctor, I myself would consider changing doctors. By today's standards, that is unacceptable. If the insurance coordinator is with the bariatric clinic, then again, change clinics. As for your insurance. Be thankful that you have insurance that pays for WLS. My does not. If I only had to worry about paying $5000 as a deductible I would be on cloud nine!

The whole process is frustrating. I think most of it is from our expectations today. We want everything now. I am learning to be patient. You will too! We can't be impatient after surgery because it is just the vehicle for our success. The rest is up to us and it too may be a slower than expected result. Here is wishing you the best!

Yup- been there and done that. I actually have a blog about my experiences. And from the responses to the blog, we are not alone. The main thing I get out of this is the got us..They know we want this. They know we are excited and anxious. They also know shopping around is not always an option, ( because of insurance) and even if we could switch practices-what guarantee do we have that the new office won't be the same? There is definitely an overwhelming amount of dissatisfaction when it comes to the office procedures of most bariatric facilities. But, at the end of the day, we get there. I think of it in the terms of giving birth...There is a whole lot of pain and suffering that goes on in the "during" stage, but all is forgotten when the end result is so sweet!

Thanks guys for letting me vent. And I know I am lucky, MNMema to have surgery covered. It is just sometimes I feel like a trained poodle, jumping through hoops, and not even getting a bleeping treat.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
