Definitely ask your surgeon, but mine said 4-6 weeks depending on how I'll be doing.

Mine is 4 weeks. I get released Wednesday, just in the nick of time to start clinicals! As a side note I feel great, 110%, I have no concerns and I'll be doing 12 hour shifts.

I took only two weeks off but my job is not strenuous like yours so you might need more time. Ask your surgeon but don't forget to tell him what kind of work you do. I have a problem remembering my questions for my doctors and forgets to write down most times. Good luck.

I was told 4 weeks until I could fly internationally and 6-8 weeks before I could go to the gym and lift 'weight' and do gentle squats, etc. The doctor was primarily concerned with 'crunching' the operation site or the excess pulling of it. I guess it's all about listening to your body. If you can, I'd go to the doctor for advice in the first instance and if you feel you're 'good to go' - take it as easy as you can in the workplace and avoid all the 'big' things for a while...

I took 8 weeks off but my job as an RN can be very labor oriented. That is a little job because I am a labor and delivery nurse. But standing at the bedside for a couple of hours of pushing can take it out of a girl!

I'm preop...my MD allows for up to 6 weeks. I plan to request the max time and hope for the best and possibly return sooner imo, it's better to have the time off approved just incase ur recovery doesn't go as smoothly as others...but trust me I'm certainly aiming for 4 weeks, because the bills still need to be paid. ;-)

Best of luck to u

Even if you feel good after the first two weeks you go through an energy level transition in week 3 to 6. It's because of the type of food you can eat. By week 6 you will hopefully level out and feel a lot better because of the weight you have lost. I am down 90 lbs since May 1st and 5 pills.< /p>

I would say, to be honest the worst part of the journey was the feeling of weakness for the first 4 - 6 weeks. I had a hard time just walking through the mall (which I love to do). I can't imagine having a strenuous job during that time. Now that time has past and i'm in the best of health ( with more weight to reach my goal). Check with your surgeon If it's possible take the time you can. there may be some weakness in the very begining

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
