Fresh OJ... Is this ok to put protien in?

Recommended Posts

I know this may be stupid question but this sight has helped me so much! I am supposed to have band to sleeve revision oct 24th and in have to start a 2 week preop liquid diet, however the list of approved items included fruit, apple sauce, salad with fat free dressing only and hot cerel. NO meat at all.

My question is after this diet I will still have to drink Protein drinks or put Protein in drinks/food ad Kroger actually squeezes fresh OJ every morning and they do not put a thing in it. It is 100% just oranges squeezed - the NATURAL sugar content says 25grams but it is NOT added sugar or sweetener it is just naturally that sweet.

To ME since they out absolutely nothing in it and it is straight orange I am considering that a fruit that I just don't have to peel!

Am I crazy or do you guys think it would be ok to at least drink one 8 ounce glass with added protein in it a day? I figure the Vitamins in fruit couldn't hurt either.

I hate fruit and healthy food but I do love that fresh squeeze OJ

Opinions ...

You should ask your surgeon/NUT- I was told no raw fruit until week 4, and I would count raw juice as raw fruit.

You also might want to try the fresh OJ now with the Protein powder to see if you even like it- I hated Protein Powder mixed with juice, I could only tolerate it mixed with milk.

Personally, I avoid orange juice of any kind because it gives me heartburn now after my sleeve and it never bothered me before.

Most diets won't allow fruits or fruits juices right after surgery. My doc said no juices for quite some time.

See this is why I ask you guys! Thank you!

I imagine the preop diet is different than post op diet.

Thank you for the try it in juice first ... Didn't think about that :)

juice, whether it's got "natural" sugar or not has a lot of calories. You might want to avoid it for that reason. Post-op, at least for me, it's hard to get down much volume of anything. You won't really notice what the Protein is mixed with, you'll just be focusing on yakking it down!

All I can think of is why spoil delicious fresh OJ with Protein Powder LOL.

Personally I wouldn't do it for two reasons.

1. OJ is very acidic and can trigger tummy irritation. Last thing you want is to go into sleeve surgery with an acidic tummy.

2. OJ is very sugary/high carb and those are the kinds of foods that will slow down your journey.

I asked my nutritionist about juice, too, and she said no. The reason for all the artificial sweeteners is to provide that big weight loss boost at the beginning. I hate artificial sweeteners, some things are so sweet they just make me gag! (Stamping my foot). I prefer natural things, but I am telling myself to suck it up for a few months. I might try sugar free Tang, maybe it will remind me of drinking Tang as a child...

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
