Period day of surgery and after

Recommended Posts

I see lots of period questions on here but not sure if I have seen this. Have any of you went into surgery with your period and how long after surgery did it last? Getting blood thinners while being a patient obviously didn't help my matters any but I feel like I have had a period for forever and it isn't decreasing. I'm 4 days post op and had a period 5 days before going into surgery.

I was on day 5 of my period for surgery. Mine normally last 5-6 days and this one lasted 7. I'm actually glad it happened like that because now I don't have to worry about it until I'm a little more healed.

I think that's where mine is headed. As long as I'm not alone in this I feel a bit better. I've never had a normal one since my tubes were tied anyways, but never this long either.

I started my period the day of surgery (probably 4 hours before the actual surgery) and I'm not sure if blood thinners made it worse. I had to wear a pad and that sucked so much and of course I bled on the bed. Not being able to take a shower sucked also and every time I went to the bathroom I got blood all over the toilet, it was so bad.

Mine was heavier with the blood thinner. But I started bleeding the 7th. I'm still bleeding today. It is getting lighter. Hoping it'll be gone soon

Wow, I'm so sorry to hear that you had to go through that :-( My surgery is tomorrow and I can feel that it will probably come a few hours before or even during! I hate the thought of that. Ugh. One more thing to deal with! This might be a stupid question lol, but did you tell your Dr before going in to surgery? Do you think that having your period would change anything in the surgery?

I told them and they just made sure I had something underneath me. The blood thinners during the stay is what I think made if drag out soooo long. Thank god that's over!! I took pads with me. It won't effect your surgery :) best wishes tomorrow !

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
