I'm about 6 weeks post op and I notice I can eat salad really well...a lot of it! I read it was a slider food. Is it bad that I'm able to consume so much lettuce? It makes me feel like a normal person when I have it so I like that I can eat it but I find myself upset that I'm not able to eat like everyone else...I just joined a gym so I'm hoping this can be my new thing so that I don't think about food as much

It looks like you are eating a ton when lettuce is consumed....but try putting a cup of lettuce in a blender and just chop it up...you end up with 1/4 or even less of a cup of lettuce. That is why you can eat so much of it.

I've never heard that lettuce was a slider. Eat as much as u like. No one got fat from eating salad (salad dressing , yes, but not just lettuce). Then again, popcorn is a slider for me. While I can only eat about 6 bites of almost anything, I can eat a bucket of movie popcorn.

Sliders may be different for everyone. I'm sure some r the same for everyone (ice cream, shakes, puddings, yogurt, anything that just "slides" thru) and some people have additional sliders (cereal, chips, cookies). Really the only thing I could eat continuously is popcorn.

No clue why...

Lettuce is a slider for me too! The first time I had it I thought "my sleeve is broken"!! Lol. Then I ate some chicken and got stuffed after 4 bites.

Sounds like a great slider to have. Can be healthy, gives great satisfaction from chewing, etc. I wish that was my slider instead of crackers and chips (which I try to avoid as much as possible).

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
