Banded Gastric Sleeve... anybody else?

Recommended Posts

Has anyone else had a banded gastric sleeve? There are lots of folks who have the regular Sleeve, but i don't know of anyone, (but one person who went to the same Dr as me" who has had this addition to the gastric sleeve. if so, what have your experiences been?

In case you do not know what a banded Gastric Sleeve is, it is a Gastric Sleeve with a small band placed about mid way down on your sleeve to create a smaller pouch, so instead of 6 to 8 ounces, you have abut a 4 ounce pouch...It is sewn in so it does not slip down or move.

Never heard of this. Is this something this dr is experimenting with? Interested to know why you are considering this.

My dr told me my new stomach was only 2oz, but could stretch to 4 oz over a year or so. Don't want it any smaller than it already is. Plus thats adding a whole new set of problems (was a lapband patient, had complications and was revised). I'd defintely do my homework on that before having it done. Sounds scary to me...

You need to be able to eat something...

Mokee... He does offer it to further restrict your intake, but he actually only offers it to patients he believes will follow his plan like they should.

Marfar 7... Ive already had the surgery and I opted for the band... i can hold about 2 to 3 ounces at a time depending on what i eat. I am 4 weeks post op and was just wondering if anybody else had done it besides his patients. I've had no issues, but i follow his directions to a T...with the exception of exercise... i have foot issues and feel like i am a slacker on that because i just dont have time to do more than walk for 10 or 15 minutes several times a day and it just hurts to do so. I hope loosing the weight will help the feet! :) .

Can't comment on the band but if you are having foot issues consider doing Water arobics and if it is the mobility of your ankle, get Water proof braces. Also there are machines and at-home exercises that apply no pressure to the foot.

If you are interested I could help set you up with an in-chair flow of yoga and/or weights that might help where your walking is limited.

Pookeyism, thank you, I actually just today looked into joining the local YMCA or Sports Center because they both have indoor/outdoor pools... I figure if i can do that until most of the weight comes off, i can tackle the foot problem if losing the weight does not fix it. I also called the Dr a while ago to see if i could use the machines and he told me to go easy to start then i should be good in a few weeks to increase, as long as i'm doing something to exercise, he will be satisfied he also suggested i try a stationary bike since that will not put pressure on my feet..

You may have a very short stomach which gives you an exceptionally small sleeve. My doctor made my sleeve tight with a 32 bougie AND an oversew and I still have a large sleeve because my stomach is LONG... I can VERY comfortably eat six ounces... and there are some who have longer stomachs than me who can eat even MORE... AND, there are some who had larger bougies combined with larger stomachs... so I can see why PERHAPS this might be an option for some people.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
