I was sleeved July 3, so I'm 11 weeks out today. I believe I've had good weight loss. I've lost 47lbs since surgery, and 57 counting my pre op diet. So why am I stressed? I'm always hungry, all foods agree with me, and I feel like I'm doing this 100% with will power alone. I got this surgery because my will power sucks. I could sit and graze all day if I allowed myself. I track on MFP every day to hold myself accountable. I average 750-850 calories, 30g carbs, 70-80g of Protein and 60-70oz of Water. I try to exercise 3-5 days a week. I weighed 243 on Monday, and as of this morning I'm 247.5!? What gives?? I'm just so frustrated with this "diet" consuming my entire life. I'm constantly worrying, and weighing, and tracking, and thinking of what I could eat at my next meal that will have enough Protein, but no carbs. Ugh! I don't want to be like this the rest of my life!! I got this surgery young (23) so I could ENJOY the rest of my life... not stress about it.

End rant.

Thanks for reading/listening.

Maybe the stress is causing the weight gain?.. Try to ease up a little. By now you know what is and what isn't good for your sleeve. Stay with the program, but learn to live it instead of stressing it. (does that make sense?) Just an idea. I have not been sleeved yet, so I could be off base. But I know from what I have been doing (since I changed my diet) the less I worry the better. I wish you luck and peace.

My advise would be to only weigh yourself once a week. My doctor told me that we have anywhere from 5-10 lbs of Water weight that is constantly fluctuating. It's next to impossible to put on 3 pounds of fat in 3 days...especially with the low amount of calories that most sleeved people eat per day. Good luck!

I have no advice, but I feel your pain! Im 4 weeks out - eating next to nothing and only dropped 1 lb. this week (22 in a month). I am tolerating everything thing too and hoping I dont have to stress the rest of my life with "being on a diet". Good luck to ya!

I saw my dr and NUT today. I'm 1 month out and lost 22 pounds since surgery. I've been keeping my cal limit to 850 a day. My NUT told me that this was way too little and that I shouldn't even count calories. She said I should be esting between 1200-2000 daily and drinking 3-4 Protein drinks each dyay. She said that my body was in starvation, which explains why I'm so tired and dizzy. She said I could have probably almost doubled my weight loss if I had been eating enough. You can bet I'll be esting more protein starting now.

That seems like a lot, no? Before surgery I was on a 1400 cal per day diet. I couldn't imagine eating that much now.

I don't think you heard right about that calorie intake, 1200 sounds about right but 2000 would be hard to do after the sleeve unless you only ate milkshakes! LOL!

JessicaAnn: you probably can eat a little more at this point. Try upping your calories to 1000. Your body may be in starvation mode. Also, try upping your Protein. i upped my Protein by drinking a Protein shake with some greek yogurt added to it as a snack and it helped the hunger issue. You are doing great so far and should feel very proud of yourself. I also think it's best to only weigh yourself once a week. You can control what you eat but you can't control what your body does with it.

THIS. I've given upon thinking I can control my body. I'm 6 weeks out, down only 25 lbs including pre-op, doing everything by the book, and focusing on being grateful for the modest loss. I too feel like I monitor food all the time. But today I was traveling and wasn't able to obsess as much as I do. When I entered my food late this afternoon, realized that while my calories had been very low so far (only 250 by 3 pm), I still had chosen Protein and Water. So I have hope this will soon become second nature to us.

And my husband is picking me up at the airport and taking me for appetizers so I will focus on that joy today. :)

I truly believe it will get easier to monitor over time.

To JessicaAnn: One more thought about addressing the hunger feelings, you may need to add more fat, especially the Omega 3 fat like avocado, olive oil and nut butters to you diet. They tell your brain you've had enough and they are yummy too!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
