Tighter in the morning....

Recommended Posts

That way you could eat more consistently throughout the day and not be as hungry at night.

This is what I should do...I hardly eat all day and then by dinner I'm starving.... I'm speaking with my nutritionalist next week, hopefully we can work something out.

I just had a fill on Monday. Prior to that fill, I was only able to drink a Protein shake in the morning, but by lunchtime, I was good to go. I definitely was much looser come dinner time.

However, since getting this fill, I can't even drink anything before noon. I am attempting to get a few spoonfulls of Soup down right now. I have also not been able to each more than a few bites of dinner this week. I am thinking I may need to have a bit taken out. I am giving it till Monday, then if I am still having problems I am calling the doctor.

Want my surgeon's theory on this?

He says it's his opinion only that what happens is that you have all this Fluid in your body...you know how your feet and ankles are more swollen end of the day? He says he thinks that being up and around, the Fluid in your tissues migrates downward due to gravity, making the tissue around the band less full of fluid, thus smaller, thus a loose band.

Laying down and sleeping then redistributes the fluid evenly throughout the body, thus filling the tissues near the band, thus making it tighter.

Don't know if he's wrong or right, but I experience the same problems everyone describes here. My ankles swell during the day but go down overnight, so to me it makes sense what he says.

For those who come home from work and eat too much...the one thing that helps me is to have a snack late in the day, like 4 or 4:30 or sometimes even at 5 as I'm out the door. That one little snack (a cheese stick or some cashews) REALLY makes a difference in the monsta as I come in the door to home and dinner.

I like your Dr's theory, it makes sense or works for me :)

This was really great reading, because I thought I was going loopy with my thinking of feeling tighter in the mornings. I make sure I have half an Optifast Protein shake each morning and the other half around 4pm so it keeps me going till dinner time without snacking or wanting to snack. :)

I have the same issues with being tight in the am, and getting looser as the day goes on. I find that if I have a cold drink before I eat in the evening, it will tighten me up. Maybe it will work for you.

This is exactly what I was looking for! I searched using the word 'tight' and you all answered my questions...I can't get anything down until about 11am, have my biggest and virtually ONLY meal for lunch and light and soft for dinner...THEN nothing after 7pm AT THE LATEST! ...because I go to sleep about 10pm and if I eat anything late, I am up all night with my food backing up! ...even just one bite!

My biggest issue is water! I have the most trouble drinking. I use the evenings to drink as it is the only time I am open enough and empty enough to get my Fluid in - AND I am soo thirsty by then!

I am 13 months from my banddate and had only two fills as of last March so I definately do not need a fill but wouldn't want to unfill and lose what restriction I do have!

I just wanted to see if I was 'normal' or not and looks like this is the way it is...and I am down 50 pounds but not losing lately...so I guess I will step up the exercise!

Thank you all for contributing! You are all greatly appreciated!

My problem is that I only get off work at 10pm so I usually only eat dinner around 10:30 or 11 and I only go to bed around midnight.

Kat, I didn't read all the responses but here is my doctors theory. When you lay down all the Fluid in your body disperses evenly, putting pressure on your pouch. (that also explains why after a bunch of walking your hands and feet swell, the fluid goes to your extremities) So when you get up in the am or after a nap there is pressure on the pouch causing less space for food to go in. There is also a theory that if you eat before bed and don't wash out the pouch it gets irritated and you can eat less in the am. I was told to always drink at least 24 oz of Water before bed to "wash" out the pouch. It didn't help me but it seems to help a ton of people. The last and final theory is a bot gross but applies to some people. Some people get mucus build-up in the pouch and throat. Some people swear by drinking a cup of hot tea or coffee to help break down that mucus. My problem seems to be the fluid thing, I have learned that if I get up and get moving in the am I have a chance at a late Breakfast, or early lunch. I have also found that a cup of hot Soup (broth based) before lunch helps a bunch. I keep low sodium chicken, beef and shrimp base to make hot broth when needed. Hope this helps and I haven't repeated what everyone else has said. ~Mandy

Thanks Mandy,

Those are some good theories. I'm going to try drinking before bed because I usually eat so late. Plus I don't get my daily 2liters in any way so this should help. Thanks!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
