Seeds and fresh fruit

Recommended Posts

How long after surgery did u eat fruit and veggies with seeds and peels? My doctor said to avoid them first few weeks post op and raw veggies until 6 months but did specify on specific time for seeds and certain foods like apples or grapes plums...also broccoli or eggplant or squash if its cooked.I'm about 5 weeks post op. thanks for anyone who replies! :)

Mine was 3 months for any seeds or fruit with membranes (so, if I was going to have grapefruit or orange, I had to cut them so I just for the fruit premiums, like when they serve fruit on a salad in a restaurant)

As far as cooked veggies, those were on the soft good portion of my post-op diet, so at 4 weeks

I specifically asked my NUT about watermelon. She encouraged it, especially early on (1-4 weeks out) because it has so much Water in it, it's soft but allows you to 'chew' which a lot of patients miss doing. Obviously, don't eat the seeds. lol

I was sleeved August 12. At 3 weeks I was allowed soft foods, including soft cooked veggies, and I've eaten them with no problem. Seeds and peels were a no no during this period. When I get to 4 weeks the dr said I could try anything, but I'm nervous about seeds and nuts, celery and asparagus - anything fibrous or seedy or hard. I sure don't want a blockage.

I'm the same way so nervous about trying new foods. I have been doing watermelon since week 3.5-4 and it has been fine. Only thing is I limit it the best I can because of the sugar although my nut said its "natural sugar and that's ok". Looking foward to some strawberries and apples....broccoli and asparagus as well. Although I know the Fiber is high in those things so I'm worried! What about nuts anyone eat any peanuts or cashews almonds at all?

Is blockage a problem with the sleeve? What happens when you have a blockage? I thought everything went through the pyloric valve as usual...

My understanding is that indigestible items can sometimes become stuck and block things going down. You can't eat or drink and it requires surgery to remove it. I'm sure some of the vets on here have a more accurate explanation.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
