Returning to old habits

Recommended Posts

So I have my final set of doctors appts today before all my paperwork gets submitted for insurance approval. An old habit of mine was to self-sabotage when loosing weight for purely psychological reasons. I have been in therapy for the last year to manage this. But here I am, procrastinating getting ready for these appointments, and finding reasons not to drive to Nashville.

You are facing the hardest part of this process... the mind. Hope you can get your head under control... but you (we) have a continuing battle!!!

I just think my anxiety is getting the best of me. My emotions are all over the place today.

Half of the battle is seeing the enemy. You know who he is and how he works.

Courage has brought you this far. You have what you need within you. Do what your logical mind says. Let changeable emotion roll on by.

Win.

I'd say you haven't returned to the old habit yet. You're just recognizing the old habit now, which maybe you didn't earlier? If that's the case, I'd change your post title to. "I have made great progress!" :)

Quick update...made it to the hospital for both my appointments. In the cafeteria now waiting for my last appointment for the day. Only wish....is that the Starbucks was still open. Might go for a walk to burn off this nervous energy before my last appointment.

I agree that you're not returning to old habits, but more like afraid to leave you're old habits so you don't face it. We've all been there and once you're over one hurdle you're off to face another, but with accomplishment.

I don't think you're returning to old habits, you're just more acutely aware of them now. That's a major stepping point in making sure you DON'T return to them - being able to recognize them, and you made it to the hospital so you overcame the temptation to return to those habits. This was a victory for you and a huge step in the right direction! Best of luck!!

Could it be fear? I can't speak for earlier bouts of self-sabotage, but this is a pretty big decision for a pretty big surgery. I'm frightened and I haven't even had my first consult yet!

BTW, I'll be getting mine done in Nashville :)

I don't think it's fear. It's my normal pattern so it was pretty easy to recognize. Where in Nashville are you doing surgery? I am going through St Thomas at Midtown.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
