Alternative Healing/Meditation/Positive Thinking

Recommended Posts

I don't know if anyone is interested in any of this, but I thought I would throw it out there. One of the things that I am planning on working on or I am trying to work on I should say is meditating and trying to raise my energy level up. I don't know if it will help or make a difference, But, there is a lots of information showing that an individual state of mind and mindset really affects their ability to rebound from surgeries. I believe in the possibilities of alternative healing. So, my goal is to try to meditate every day if it all possible and to really try to work on my attitude and things that nature.

I am unfortunately one of those individuals that always has the side effects from his surgery or I'm always in that 1% of individuals that experience something that is not the norm. I found out earlier this year that I have severe rheumatoid arthritis and it helps to explain why my immune system is not always that great… So, it may be not helpful or it may not do anything but, I figured taking this road as an option doesn't hurt. I have gone through so much medically and Honestly I am scared to death of having another surgery just because of everything I've gone through. I'm willing to do it because I see a light at the end of the tunnel but I'm just hoping that the light is extremely bright and not filled with a bunch of problems.

So like I said, I don't know if anyone is interested or is of the mindset that changing our energy or where we are throughout this process, makes a difference, but I thought that I would least throw it out there and see if anyone is interested in discussing it.

I say try it. I think meditation is very helpful in not only settling your mind and calming, but I believe it is helpful to visualize your goals.

I too believe in the possibilities of alternative therapies- saw so many of them work so well while I was working for a hospice. Patients pain levels decreasing with Reiki or Reflexology treatment.

Good luck with your surgery.

I started listening to guided meditations at night to help me relax and boy did they ever work. They worked so well I was out cold within 2 minutes. I still listen to one almost every night.

But at one point a few months ago I had issues with my trail running and had several bad trips and falls. I didn't get hurt but it unnerved me enough I quit running the trails for a while. But I couldn't live without that activity so I did some research into making my own guided meditation recording. Turns out it's not terribly difficult. After several rough drafts I finally made one that I really liked and I recorded it on my phone. I listen to it before every trail run and my anxiety about tripping has all but completely gone away.

Now I need to make another one about me winning the lottery.

I do listen to Meditation music and guided meditations at night – they hope we get tired or rested so that I can actually fall asleep. I have a great deal of trouble sleeping they really do help me.

I just really wish that I could get into the routine of meditating. I have all the stuff I have everything I could want to or need in order to do that but I just don't seem to follow through. I think also, I got so much going on in my head that I can't stop thinking....

I drive in silence. NO music! This is when answers to problems i may have miraculously appear. Once a week I drive to Brisbane. It is motorway all the way and takes about an hour and a half. I look forward to this drive, especially if I am stuck on something creatively ( I dabble in textile arts). I see this drive time as a form of meditation! I really think meditation of any sort has great benefits. Good luck on your journey!

A friend of mine recently told me.....you should sit in meditation 20 minutes a day.....unless you're too busy and then you should sit an hour.

These are all great ideas – I think we could all apply them to our situations. I have a week until my surgery… I better get started! An hour sounds like a long time but in the midst of things it really isn't. I just have to carve out the time. Something is better than nothing right? But I should very much continue This after-the-fact and after the surgery. With the guided meditations that I have includes see a white light on the areas of my body that have difficulties – or are in need of healing. This is something else that can be used to help and healing/meditation. Just thought I would share in case anyone was interested.

Blessings,

Natalie

Would love to know how things are going for you, Natalie. I saw groups on here for Christians, Atheists and Agnostics and I don't really belong in those groups. I do however believe in Reiki, positive energy flow etc. I believe if people only knew how powerful their thoughts only were the world would be such a different place.

Natalie I started doing meditation to help me with my depression 7 years ago and it has made such a huge difference. I do 10 minutes of a guided each day at lunch. It can make a difference in a good day and a bad day. So I'm pretty religious with it. Before I started I was able to go to a workshop on meditation which was a big help. May times when individual start out they think if you can't clear your mind during meditation you have failed. This far from the truth this skill takes year to be successful at doing. Wishing you success. If I can help on your journey please let me know. Yy

I have similar beliefs – I believe in the things that you mentioned as well. I agree, our thoughts are powerful – so much so that people don't even really know it. I'm sorry that it took me so long to reply – I didn't realize that there were more replies to the messages. My intention was to meditate prior to surgery and that didn't happen and I still have the intention to meditate now and I hope to do it at least once a day but I can't seem to get started or on the track.

I also want to do some additional study on Reiki and it's things of that nature as well but, I just haven't gotten to it – there's no excuse for not really but I just haven't. I really need to though.

How are things with you?

I'm pretty excited. I am going to my first ( of three) nutrition appointments. Staying positive and ready to get this hurdle jumped :)

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
