Self pay in the USA

Recommended Posts

I had a conversation with someone recently that really surprised me. She had paid less for plastics in the US than she would have in Mexico. I'm still in the process of getting sleeved next month in Mexico but it made me wonder - how much did you pay for your vsg in the States ? Would love to hear from you.

Hi all, I was going to get sleeved in Michigan with Dr Pleatman. His rate is 11,200 for all medical costs. When I researched Mexico I changed my mind tho lol. I'm going too TJ surg for 9/11

I know - me too. I could have it done in Kansas City (where I am) for $11,999 which is not bad but then you see it for a third of that in Mexico.

I think about $12k, give or take. I was sleeved in the north Houston area.

I don't know but the hospital billed my insurance almost 49k worth of stuff between the surgery, medicine, hospital stay, etc.

I was self pay and my total cost was 14,500. Sounds like Mexico is a third.

You know if vsg in the states was maybe a difference of a couple of thousand I would very likely stay in the states but most surgeons here are starting around $11k and even conservatively Mexico is still less than half. Unless you're independently wealthy these numbers do matter. I won't lie - I would love to get this done locally for several reasons - the language barrier - the sheer hassle of flying out of the country (and then having to fly back with a sore tummy) and being close to my regular physician in the event of complications. Omg I'm starting to talk myself out of Mexico !! But seriously unless I found someone here for maybe $8 -$9k I can't afford to do this anywhere but Mexico. Ironically, it's likely a vast number of Mexican surgeons trained here and have performed far more of the procedures.

I did mine in Kansas City for 12k. I also considered Mexico.

I have not been sleeved yet, but I am in the process of getting a date. I will be self pay and will pay $19,000 when it's all done. That includes all pre-op appointments, the surgery, hospital stay, follow up appointments for a year, and insurance for 90 days after surgery. I see what insurances are charged when they have to foot the bill, and my amount is extremely cheap compared to that.

Orange County, CA for $18,500...I know many people are happy with their Mexico surgery, but it just wasn't for me. I could suggest looking into a personal, unsecured loan through a credit union...if you paid the cash that you had for Mexico and financed the rest, you could finance the rest for a very doable finance rate (mine was 8%, I think)

It's a long name but basically it's when they stick the camera down throught to check for things like a hiatal hernia, which I had and qualified me for discount.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
