Oh no hunny it's not a movie it's Mexico!!

Lol that's funny when u said u saw naked person my only bad thing I saw and it did scare me was when I went out to walk and say one o the janitors his name was Lalo he has a tattoo on his lower back park of his neck well I saw him giving hisself meds in between his fingers no I didn't say anything cause I was in anther country and was scared to death of him maybe tryi g to hurt me so I kept quite

Yes I did and I didn't go alone I took a friend with me and we both seen it. Scared too was the word for it didnt won't to say anything because u never know what that man Lalo was putting in between his fingers the needles are rather big and it even left the blood on his hand bt it didn't seem to bother him at all. Bt I didn't won't to say anything there the meds are very easy to get especially when the nurses let them back where the meds are and they aren't locked up

It's ok, I am back at the hotel. Had a horrible case of thrush that swelled my throat, making it very hard to swallow. So of course I was dehydrated and had low blood sugar.

The swelling in my hands and limbs is still a bit of a mystery, hopefully it goes away on its own. Five days out I am 14 lbs heavier than the day of surgery and have been on all liquids for a week. when it comes off, I bet I drop two sizes!

I was already back in the states when things went downhill, so I couldn't go back to Tijuana. And yes, insurance will cover everything, thankfully.

I have no complaints at all about Dr. Garcia or Dra. Velasco. She was on the phone with my husband throughout the entire ordeal making sure all was well. She is wonderful, truly. Dr. Garcia also kept in touch, messaging me last night to go to a hospital because he realized I might not be drinking enough to stay hydrated.

The hospital might not be fancy, but the doctors give good care. Nurses seemed very caring too -- although I swear none looked older than 14 lol. I felt so old!

All in all, I am happy to be back in my hotel and continue to recover. :)

Glad to hear you are feeling better!

Wait, I am confused. Why did you go back to TJ hotel if you were already in the states?

I remember when someone first posted about janitor shooting up pain meds. BUT I thought it was at MI Doctors not florence. The hospitals are dated a bit. I had my surgery at Florence and had no problems. The staff were sanitary and the rooms were too. I would not have a problem going back.

I am not at a hotel in Tijuana. I am at a hotel in San Diego until I feel up to traveling home. Flying out tomorrow.

Glad you're ok, chickadee. All the swelling is from the fluids I'm sure you got intra and postop. You'll probably start peeing like crazy over the next few days and be a skinny mini! You don't even look that overweight to begin with but I guess that's relative.

Ok, thanks for clarifying. Freaked me out a little if they couldn't handle that at their own hospital. I still am in decision mode so thinking of all the "what if's" is hurting my brain.

That was at Mi Doctor, correct? I remember reading the post about it.

Glad you are on the mend Chickadee. I hope the rest of your recovery is easy peasy :)

I had my surgery at florence. My bathroom was in much better condition. Hopefully they take care of the tile issue in that room soon.

The nursing staff did seem youngish. I never had concerns with the care though. They were very sweet and caring.

so I had my surgery 8.31.13 Dr Illan and arrived on Friday 8.30.13 around 6pm and was in room 7. Were we there the same time? Sorry to hear about your IV but I have a terrible time in the states b/c I have no veins and they got mine 2nd go around. My room was in good shape so I wasn't disappointed with the hospital. I'll have to post my pics as soon as I figure it out. Omar had us all over Tijuana eating Soups and hubby eating seafood. Would you do it again? I would in a NewYork minute :) Wish us both much weight loss success!!!! {{hugs}} Sherry from VA

The hospital may be a teaching hospital which would explain for the young-ish staff. I believe Almater is a teaching hospital as well.

That is true, some of the nurses at Almater were definitely young, but the one who put my IV in was an older lady with lots of experience. I have tiny veins, and she had a young nurse behind her observing... but the older nurse did the IV and got in on the first try.

And we both know that the bathrooms at Almater don't look like that. lol

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
