Hi Argon, I just joined the group but as you said little to no activity. I am waiting for banding, Should be within the next 2-3 months. There is so much information out there, I am wondering if I am reading to much. I see you are doing great there, that's fantastic.

Hi Sherrylynn and welcome!!! :welcomeB:

Congrats on your upcoming banding date! :clap2:

Most certainly do a ton of reading/research (on here is great...the general/support threads)....make yourself aware of the "probs" that can occur...but don't read about them on here....no need unless you experience it yourself.....

yes, same as Yoda said... don't read the complications section. You don't need to worry yourself right now with things like that.

I have been banded, hence the 95lb loss! Not doin' it all by myself :)

Hi Sherrylynn, are you getting the band in Moncton? I was wondering because I called their office and they did'nt seem to be very encouraging as far as getting the band so I just kinda let it go .So I was curious if you got a referral from a GP or something.Good luck

Sherrylynn,

Do you live in Moncton or the surrounding area? I grew up there and still have lots of relatives and friends there. My mom tells me I wouldn't recognize the city since it's grown in leaps and bounds the last 5 years (the last time I was home for a visit)

The band is a great tool but as the girls replied don't read too much into the complications. If you have a problem do the research and ask the questions. There is alot of information but some of the sights and the comments are not as good as others. The support on this site is second to none.

Astrotoes, yes I am getting the band in Moncton, I had to get a referal from a surgeon in my home town , which is in nova Scotia, i waited over a year to see Dr. Beausoleil. From what I understand he has only been doing WLS for about 2 years and is the only DR. in the Atlantic Provinces doing it.

AngelBear, I am from and live in NS. thankyou for replying and for the advise and I plan on being a regular to the site. I so look forward to getting to know all the nice folks here.

Sherrylynn

sherrylynn, how does it work in NS? Do you have to pay for the band itself, and everything else is covered, like NB?

In NB:

- you have to have a BMI over 35

- provide written documentation showing failure of medical/dietary management over an extended period to control weight through a structured program has been completed. Must have been seen, assessed and referred for bariatric surgery by a psychiatrist and/or a specialist in internal medicine.

- have some co-morbidities

(quoting an email I got from NB Medicare)

yes I have to pay for the band itself. As for the procedure , I am a diabetic and have highblood pressure so i was a candidate in their eyes to qualify for the cost of the procedure. i did not have to prove to them about any weight management programs i tried, i think my doctors word was enough.

no referral from an internist or psychiatrist required either? It's must just be that your province doesn't require proof of medically supervised diets.

How much are you looking/needing to lose?

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
