I am 4 weeks out, able to eat pretty much anything except raw veggies, Pasta, bread or rice... Untill 6 months. The past few days IV been doing great except I struggle with fluids still. I'm frustrated though because I have already hit a plateau...stuck at 23 pounds down for almost two weeks. I'm concerned maybe I'm eating too much? Or advancing and trying new foods too quickly. I stayed true to my doctors orders but not understanding why the scale isn't moving. I am not cleared to work out yet but I have been walking about 30 mins a day. Today I ate a Protein Shake for Breakfast, lunch I was able to eat some ground beef and cheese (1/4 cup) ad for dinner I had two small scallops. I chew small small bites eat slowly and don't drink until 30 mins after. Anyone else have issues with stalls this early out? My nutritionist was pleased with me but I feel like no foods really "bother me" except Powerade which made me dump.

I am in almost the exact same stall as you. I think it is just a matter of our bodies playing catch up. Right now I am just trying to live by the mantra that the scale will move eventually. I am always under 650 calories or so right now so it has to go down at some point!!

I hope so! I try to keep positive but it makes me worried every time I introduce a new food I'm prepared it may not settle right. And Every time it's fine. It makes me think I'm doing something wrong lol. Over analyzing I guess. At my support group people even 10 months out were saying they couldn't eat meat but i have had no problem with any of them so far.

You have to realize you have lost 23 lbs in 4 weeks .. You will prob stall now for a few days to weeks while your body / blood etc.. Restabalize.

You will start losing again but slower - like 2-3.5 lbs a week

Also don't weigh everyday - once a week is enough otherwise you will get crazy as you will see yourself gaining and losing the same few lbs during week before you lose

Very normal... When the swelling starts going down u can eat a little more and the scale sticks for a week or so. No worries it will start moving!!

Yep, I agree with Lulubee and Vegasme... normal normal normal. Just hang in there, the scale will move (in it's own sweet time, of course...). Just pull a Bobby McFerrin and "Don't worry, be happy!"

Good work and good luck!

I am 4 weeks out now. I've lost 30 lbs so far (that includes what I lost on the pre-op diet). I haven't lost anything in almost two weeks but I'm not letting myself get discouraged because I know it will start again and I know I'm losing inches. Just know that like everyone else said, it's normal. Just keep doing what you've been doing so far and don't get discouraged. Congrats on the weight loss so far!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
