Thoughts from this group on whether a stool softener is appropriate?? (I'm 2 days post op and in the same boat...no gas/no BM). Thanks!

If you are u comfortable, take one. If you're taking one because you think you should have pooped by now, just give it another day or two. I never took one, but my husband really should have. He had "issues". :)

If you just want to be cautious, be sure you take a stool softener and not a laxative, and it can't hurt you.

I am three days post-op also. I finall started passing gas and it felt pretty good. No BM. Make sure you are getting the minimum Protein. Your body is just recovering from the lack of solid food. It will come. II would suggest a glycerin suppository over a stool softener, unless your doctor has okay'd it.

You'll be fine! I was sleeved on Monday, 8/19 and didn't pass gas until yesterday. Now it's like I'm powering a hot air balloon for God's sake. Also had my first (very loose) poop yesterday. Give it some time; I also felt lots of rumblings before anything materialized...but walking is key!

Meta-mucil is a wonderful fibre rich powder that you add to Water. It's orange flavored and even comes in sf version. This has physillium in it to help bulk/soften up your stools so that you can poop comfortably. My medications make me have hard bm's and meta-mucil works for me the next morning.

Good luck with it and meta-mucil won't mess with your meds or anything. It's all good.

My hospital wouldn't release me till I had a BM. They gave me laxatives every night and the third morning after surgery I had a BM. If you aren't in the hospital call them for either prescription laxatives or the best kind to get. The first few weeks are the roughest! You won't feel sore forever and you will be able to eat normal foods again.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
