So tomorrow morning I am waking up bright and early and going to join the gym. I just want to know from other fellow sleevers, if you weren't into working out before your surgery, how did you get into it? And how did you get past that feeling of absolutely hating it?

Why did you join a gym? What do you expect to get out of it? What kind of physical activity do you enjoy, if any?

I have never been 'in' to working out in a gym...with that said, I have joined gyms 3 times over the years and every time I did I would go and work out at first and slowly get to the point of not going. The gym owners didn't care if I showed up or not because once I joined they got their payment every month (auto-pay)!!! I would suggest that if you really don't like to workout to get month to month membership I sure would have saved a lot of money if I had done that! Good luck! Susan

I want to start working out to tone everything and loose the last 40 pounds. I'm not exactly sure what I expect to get out of it. I just want to be fit, and I want to eventually like working out.

My friend who had the sleeve two years ago wishes she had gone to the gym sooner than she did... But she said every morning she would wake up and say in the mirror " I love going to the gym! It's great! " until she actually loved going to the gym because she was seeing results...

Once I'm cleared to do more than walk I plan on going to my brothers house since he has a complete gym room... Plus he will make me exercise... He is a fitness nut!

I'm the kind of person that will never work out for the sake of working out or the abstract "getting in shape". I will, however, train for a sport or race. If that sounds like you, you might think about finding some kind of sport. I started training with a group of women of all ages and sizes for triathlon in 2009, and it's been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life.

Best of luck to you and congratulations on your hard work so far! The best advice I can give you is to find an activity that you love and think is fun and "train" for it. Finding a group of like-mindeds can make the whole process extremely rewarding and can provide accountability. I'm also far more likely to skip the gym if no one is expecting me to be there. I'm guessing I'm not the only one that will do things for others that I might not do for myself... :-)

I have joined and quit gyms a number of times in the past, but hated working out and just couldn't get myself to stick with a workout commitment. Try using a personal trainer. I have one I see two times a week. It has the advantage of being a regular appointment with someone whose livelihood in part depends on me. That keeps me going. Three times a week I participate in deep Water aerobics. It is demanding, but I love getting into that water. Good luck.

For me the best advice I was given came from folks here..... "It's a job." I HATE to exercise....never liked PE as a kid. Enjoyed playing around outside and being active, but actual/formal stuff just isn't for me. Oh, the money I would have in my pocket if I had all the money I've spent in the gyms around me.

Now...that said, I now look at things in terms of doing a job. I work 5 days a week and get the weekend off. If I miss a week night (nights keep me more consistent instead of doing things in the AM), then there goes part of the weekend. That happened this week with it being the first week of school and coming home too pooped to pop. :-). So, I bounce through DVDs, Wii games, yoga vids, etc. that will get me up & moving so I don't get too bored. I have a variety of things to choose from since exercising isn't for me. Also, I usually take my dog for a brisk walk but right now it's hotter than he££, so he gets a quick trip around the block before bed instead of our 2 mi.

As I'm sure you've heard, you've gotta find your niche...my niche means this a job. I doubt it'll ever be something I truly enjoy, but...I don't care. I just want to live a long and active life...and this is the JOB that will get it done.

Haven't been to the gym that we pay for for 3 months. Hubby used to luv working out, used to beg me to go. now he uses every excuse to not go. Hate going without him so I've just been walking my dog in my neighborhood. Now that I will be released for weight training next week (had to wait 6 weeks) I guess I'll go without him. I HATE wasting money. And it's open 24/7. And there's batting cages he likes to use, but just getting him motivated to go is a pain.

I know, I know I need to go myself...

I have to say I've always hated exercise of any kind. A big part of it is I keep thinking I hear people's thoughts like, "Wow, check out that fat lady trying to work out!" I've recently started walking at a pretty decent pace and use my fitbit to ensure I get in at least 30 minutes of "very active minutes" each day. I'm planning on upping this next week. Part of the problem for me is that I'm a big workaholic and often feel like an hour of exercise is an hour that I could have been doing something more productive (ha ha). Now that I'm learning to appreciate my body a bit more, I don't seem to struggle with the time requirements nearly as much.

In other words, I totally understand where you are coming from and am glad you brought the topic up here. Love all the feedback provided so far! Good luck!!!

Op I hated working out too. I lost my first 73lbs just walking on the treadmill. Attached is my 30 day shred. No gym! No crazy equipment. I was on my last 40lbs also. 20 mins a day. This was 30 days, 20 mins a day. All I needed was hand weights. 9 bucks at Walmart. I wouldn't join a gym if you paid me:-) that's just my opinion!

Tessies, my copy of 30 day shred arrived yesterday and I watched the level 1 last night, looked OK. Did you do it for 30 days continuous or did you have rest days. Also, did you go up a level after 10 days or just when you felt comfortable? Did you lose any weight with 30 DS? Thanks.

I only lost 10lbs but I went down 2 sizes and lost a ton of inches. Especially in my butt and midsection. I had no rest days. I did it 30 days continuously. 10, 10, 10. I did not go to the next level until I could get as close to Natalie as I could. I still can't do a military push up. But I did as advanced as I could before I moved on.

      Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

      2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

        I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

        I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

      I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

      Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

        I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

        Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
