QUESTION: How did you survive your liquid diet?

Recommended Posts

Ok! I PROMISE you I will not complain. I've been on a liquid diet now for 5 days and I'm going crazy!! I need something different because these broths are now making me NAUSEATED!! I have switched to ramen noodles seasoning and that seems to help alot. What else OTHER than Protein Shakes and broth did you drink?? I am doing Water and gatorade as well...THANKS ALL!!

We did powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury chicken broth with taco seasoning (hey we were desperate! And it tasted good), with ramen noodles, with hot sauce. We were allowed vegetable Soup which we also flavored with everything possible.

Hmmmmm, I did Tomato Soup and it was DEVINE!! I'm trying to be good but it's proving to be a challenge. Did you eat popsicles or Jello? I didn't get any guidelines OTHER than a liquid diet. So I'm willing to try anything.

Yes we were allowed sugar free popsicles and Jello. We were also allowed 2-3 cups of vegetable Soup as long as it didn't have starchy vegetables (no potatoes, corn, peas, squash, etc). A bowl of that only has 50 calories. So 3-4 shakes, and 3 cups of soup a day, plus my husband had the Popsicles and Jello if he was still hungry.

On top of the above, I was allowed SF pudding, greek yogurt, cream of potato Soup (and any other cream soup).

I would suggest that you try to keep your calories between 800-1000 as you do this, and cut as much fat and carbs as possible. Enjoy!

My NUT removed the cream of potato option (along with the mashed potatoes I was allowed on pureed) when I was allowed to start my soft foods. The caloric intake is so low at the beginning that any calories were better than no calories. :D A week or three of carby Soup (and really, how much could we really take in) was a few hundred calories a day MAX.

I do miss mashed potatoes and gravy a little. MMmmmmm....

I can't get in over 700-800 calories now and that's GREAT day. I average 400-600 on a normal basis.

She's pre-op though. She'd probably be dying on what you and I are eating these days :)

Oh lordy! I didn't even see that. Strike everything I said. Hold my advice for post op liquid diet. EEEEEK!

Pre-op I was allowed one yogurt a day, two Protein shakes and one lean meat and veggie dinner.

I definitely wasn't allowed Gatorade unless you are drinking G2.

Sorry about that!

You might try Crystal Light and herbal teas in varying flavors, and YES to Jello and SF popsicles, they made the liquid diet do-able.

Yay! So happy to hear that. I do think a variety in flavors makes the whole thing a lot easier to get through.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
