Preventative measures.... Body Wraps and compression garments. Do they work?

Recommended Posts

I'm 28 and I'm SO worried about this too. In another thread, I learned that Nivea Q10 is good for your skin, so I'll be trying that post-op.

i use that lotion its good..but..you can only do so much for your skin. I am 32 so I am not that old but my stomach and upper thighs there's nothing i can to really save them. I am thinking I will get my stomach (gonna try to get insurance to cover the panniculectomy), boobs totally deflated so I am thinking those and depending upon how much my thighs.

It all comes down to genetics, age (which the OP has in her favor) and how long you have been overweight. Wraps and compression garments will not do anything. The garments help with appearance and the wraps "work" because they suck the Water out of your skin but once you rehydrate it goes back to normal...so dont waste your money.

You will have to wait and see how your body reacts to the weigh loss. All in all i would rather have some saggy skin then be the size i was before! Just remember you can hide that stuff until you save up enough for plastic surgery if you really want to go that road.

Thanks Manda' date=' That does help. I want to know i did all I could to avoid surgery if I do eventually have to have it. I like the idea of monthly massages :)[/quote']

I had my first massage last Friday and it was great. I talked to the massage therapist alot and she said it really helps with circulation and will help to detoxify the body. She said if cost is an issue I should be fine with only one or two a month. She showed me more about the dry brushing technique which was good. I am not going down without a fight! I really don't want to deal with plastic surgery.

I'm 3+ years post op.. I lost a total of 163 lbs. my advise, do the wraps, do the garmits... Do the exercise, and try as much as possible to keep Water intake at the max you can. Everyone's body is different. I personally did a wrap a month to help hydrate my skin and it did help. But remember you have to give your body time. You will be losing quickly and it will take a bite of time for your skin to catch up and reform to the new (less) bulk tissue.

I'm 44 and 16mths post-op. I've lost 126lbs. I do having sagging skin but I've noticed that when I stopped drinking my Protein Shakes 2x a day and focusing on getting 90 grams of Protein in my skin started to look shriveled and wrinkly. From day one I've kept my skin hydrated as much as possible. I'm acutally thinking about doing the body wraps but will try the homemade version first (THANKS FOR THE RECIPE). I'm bottom heavy any my thighs are gross but unless I do plastics it's something I have to learn to love and live with. Good thing is you are young and should still have a lot of elasticity left in your skin.

I tried wraps before and they don't work, but I loved my compression garment but it didn't make any difference except when I wore it.

New to sleeve 9 days post op, please tell me what you drink eat to get that much protein in a day? I'm having a really hard time making myself drink right now. Had to see doc yesterday for thrush. Mouth hurts and stomach sore. Thx

I am counting on exfoliating and sweet almond oil. My favorite of my exercise videos is chair boxing ( done sitting down), which I am hoping will help with jiggle arms. Also, strength training twice a week for overall muscle strength. I also read that healthy muscles help fill up the loose skin somewhat.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
