Has anyone had to quit smoking (after 43 yrs), quit diet coke and lose weight? I quit the smoking (yeah) and not worried about the diet cokes, but do you think I can get the 10 lbs off.....since June!!! I still have 3 more to go & I have a weigh-in tomorrow...I think I'm doing everything Im suppose to....Protein, no sugar, few carbs, walk 20 minutes a day, jot everything on Fitness Pal ...Do you think it could be from quitting smoking or the diet cokes?? I am hoping to be a Sept sleever & I started this in March!!

It shouldn't be from quitting smoking or diet cokes. Just make sure you are being completely, brutally honest about everything that goes into MFP and that you weigh/measure all your food. How many calories are you taking in daily? Typically what will help you drop more weight faster is to reduce your daily calories. Some people also find that upping their Water intake helps.

Yup, I had to quit deit coke last year because I found I am sensetive/allergic to aspertame and I quit smoking (a pack a day) this year at the end of January.

The losing weight part? lol not so much. I am getting sleeved on Sept 10th though. Good luck, it can be done.

I was told to quit smoking to so I got a vapor cig even though it has nicotine I'm down to 12g nicotine. They say the healing process is longer with possibly more complications with smoking and sometimes they won't do the surgery. My dr knows I went from pack and a half a day to couple puffs from my vapor a day... I'm getting ther I get sleeved 8/26/13. Good luck!

I quit smoking 3 weeks ago and stopped diet soda earlier this year. It has been really hard at times but with my surgery coming up close(9/10) I just keep telling myself that it is worth it. I love vaping! Found a bunch of places online that will custom mix flavors and nicotine strengths.

Im to quit smoking 30 days before surgery. Ive been a smoker 15 years. Is the vapor thing ok, I mean is it safe to do. Will it disqualify me or delay surgery? Im tentatively scheduled for october 4. I know this is necessary but I love cigarettes sometimes more than food

I'm in the quit smoking program at the hospital. It's free. I'm off 8 days now. I'm using the Nicotrol Inhaler. It's a prescription. Delivers nicotine. I asked the lady about the e-cigs. She told me that they are poison and to stand 3 ft. away from anyone using them. Yikes. She sure doesn't like those things.

Anyway, I miss smoking. I really enjoyed it all my life. But, I kinda like being cigarette-free, too.

I was not a carbonated drink person, esp. diet sodas. Never liked them. So, that's no problem for me. I do like my caffeine, though, in the form of coffee and iced tea.

Hello.....this is the whole problem.....You have to quit smoking & be NICOTINE free...no nicotine in your system at all....No e-cig, no vapor cig, no inhaler, no patch!!! I had to have a separate blood test called "cotinine" last week & I still don't know the result but haven't heard anything...I quit all nicotine before July 1st...

I quit smoking 3 weeks ago right after I found out my sleeve was approved. I went Cold turkey. I'm not gonna lie it was hard the first few days bcuz I was still craving it. But I knew I had to and didn't want to put myself at risk for the surgery.

I just submitted for ins approval yesterday. I smoke, and I will quit when I get a surgery date. I am down to about 3-5/ day. i'm not sure about my surgeon's rules about nicotine replacements. Will be sure to ask. I am willing to quit--but not until I absolutely have to. Giving up carbonation will be tricky as well. I love my lo carb monster in the morning. maybe I will switch back to coffee, who knows. They do want us off all caffeine 2 wks before surgery. I've already started to wean that too. I'm willing to go to any lengths to do this! liquid diet? ? bring it! so ready for this change!!!

My surgeon will absolutely not do the surgery if you smoke cigarettes. He does allow nicotine replacements though. patch, gum, vap... Whatever.

I'm down to my last few days of smoking now. I use a great ecig. Really works well for me.

But every dr is different

THANK YOU FOR SAYING THAT OUT LOUD. The vapor is just replacing one addiction for the same addiction (but maybe just slightly healthier) however, smokers use the vape as a crutch for years after "quitting smoking" and its just not. Its an excuse to keep consuming nicotine.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
