Clothes purging Pre op...Save me from myself!

Recommended Posts

Has anyone purged your closet pre op only to regret it later? There are some things I know I wouldn't wear even if I fit into them again, but then again, I don't want to get caught ...well with my pants down :). What If I don't lose weight as fast as I think I'm going to? My closet is out of control and I just want to purge it!!!! This is mostly mental, but physically, my closet is a mess too!!! Any advice would be appreciated.

Don't do it!! My surgery is 8/26 and I'm not getting rid of anything yet. Try sorting your clothes by Item, then color and just clean it up for now. I purchased 2 pair of pants in smaller sizes and 3 tops for now. The rest I'm waiting on

I am pre op and have bought 3 dresses and 4 sweaters at Anthropologie for after the surgery!!!! I just needed to keep enthused while I am waiting out the 6 months. As far as the old stuff in the closet..............It is still there until after the surgery. It will be so exciting to give all of those big clothes to the Goodwill and slip into the new Anthropologie style. I can't wait to buy clothes that I like instead of what fits!

I would suggest you wait to purge your closet. I was still able to wear the same old clothes for about 2 or 3 months, even though I was losing weight. I am now at almost 6 months and I still haven't bought anything new, because I am only about 1/2 way to my goal. I did keep boxes of smaller sizes that I wore during my various diets so I do have clothes to wear. I felt like I was going to jinx my weight loss if I purged my closest too soon! Good luck to you!

Hold on to them for now. I get rid of clothes when I go two sizes down.

I purged over half my closet before surgery and felt good about it......

I was in the hospital for 5 months after and when I got home there was nothing that fit me left except socks....LOL

My closet is truly bare with only a few items left....Them I am keeping because it was the last shirt I wore before the surgery.....

Now I look forward to the smaller sizes and feel exuberant at the thought that soon I will be down yet another size.....

Has anyone had to buy smaller shoes?? I imagine your feet get a little smaller and your shoe size shrinks. I am not look ing forward to buying new shoes. When you are heavy, at least you can still buy cute shoes...and I bought quite a few!

Oh boy, purging my closet sounds like a DREAM !! - I am so sick of fat clothes. I'm scheduled for October 5 with Dr Illan and cannot wait. I gained the bulk of my weight (again) in the last 7 years but I held onto all my cool jeans and tops so I will have a lot of great stuff to wear soon - still seems completely unbelievable to me that I could put any of this on again.

This weekend I got rid of 3 trashbags worth of new/gently used clothes. Gave them away. I have on baggy pants today because I thought surely these would fit...nope!

I would say DO NOT purge now. Some people lose weight fast and others inches. You don't know what you'll be yet. I was always quick at losing weight...well, surprise, now I'm an inch loser.

Plus, you could always get some things taken in, which looking back I prob should have done, if I was not so lazy.

I purged 5 black trash bags of clothes from my closet two weeks before surgery and I don't regret it. I kept anything that still fit, (I had lost 22 pounds by then). If it was something that may fit but was not something I would want to wear it was gone too. Gave me room for those smaller sizes I planned to buy at the thrift store plus once I donated the old clothes I got two discount coupons to use at the thrift store. But the real success of the purge was going through the clothes one by one and realizing this isn't me anymore. I'm not accepting hand me downs or buying clothes anymore just because they're the right size. I purged that fat me that day and accepted that this was the start of a new life and a new me and there's no looking back.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
