I am 26 and today marks 4 weeks post op, down 23 pounds. I was in the same boat you are. I have to say I don't regret it at all. The first week- week an a half is the hardest but you can do it. Good luck!

I am 27 and 16 days post-op. Now that I'm on the losers' bench there is no way in hell I would have waited another second to sign up for the surgery. I didn't feel too young to get the surgery. I felt too old. I wish I had had the surgery when I was 20. I'm sure my skin would have bounced back better than it will 7 years from then. As well, I wouldn't be starting from 285 lbs. I would have been starting from 220 lbs.

I like to link people to my post about my yo-yo dieting: 100% of people with a BMI of >30 who lose weight with diet and exercise will gain it back in 3 years.

I am in the process of gaining insurance approval for the surgery. I was initially VERY interested in the plication procedure. However, the surgeon told me: "I could make a lot more money if you had the plication because you'd have to pay cash BUT if you were MY sister I'd do the sleeve. He said no matter what---those sutures on the folded stomach WILL come out. He said then you've undergone major surgery and you're right back where you started : ( ! He said with the plication you also keep the part of your stomach which produces the hunger hormone Grelin. So your hunger will most likely still be there. I decided on the sleeve because it's the constant hunger, along with other issues which keep me in the food instead of living life. I am praying and praying I can have the surgery the first week of December. Several have said but THE HOLIDAYS. My response is I'm going to have to deal with them at some point anyway!

Whatever you decide, I wish you only the BEST outcome.

I'm 20, sleeved a month ago exactly and I couldn't be happier. I had the same thoughts as you but never let it get to me because I knew I wanted this weight done. Now I'm starting to live the life I always wanted to but hid behind closed doors in my sweats instead

So I wanted to give you an update- I'm 12 days out and feeling much better mentally and physically! I'm not to 100% with either' date=' but I'm feeling more confident that everything is ok and I'm going to be better than okay not too long from now! I came back to work today- only 2 people know why I was really out so it's been good to just get back to life. So I hope that if you go through with the sleeve your initial pain, discomfort, mental anguish is short lived![/quote']

Thank you for your original post and the update! I'm having my surgery in two weeks and am nervous about the diet part. I know there's.going to be a lot of changes and everything makes it look so simple but you made it real. I'm so glad I came across your post so I know what to really expect!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
