extra fees after surgery at Nova Hospital in Tijuana?

Recommended Posts

For all those who felt misleaded when dealing with dr. Kelly I want to remind you that it is writen in the papers you signed that you'll be charged depending of your BMI and whatever other rasons like medicines you might need extra. I was not charged a dime extra but the guy who had surgery the same day as me was charged 150$ exrtra for the stuff they had to put in his IV. He had some different issues wth his feet. Anyway he didn't get charged by the doctor but by the hospital. There is a disclaim in your financial agreement stating all this. Now not to ercomend a doctor due to a misunderstang is not fair.

Tudor and Patva... I appreciate both your replies and reflections. You'll note that I did state I understood what I was signing both for the surgeon's contract and the hospital intake forms. My personal issues with the over charges are my own, as is my decision to fully disclose my experiences and recommend, or not, the service I used.

That is disappointing. I wouldn't have liked to have been presented with a bill post surgery. I understand Dr's charging additional fee's upfront for very high BMI's. After the fact seems wrong. Expecially considering the forms everyone signs are in Spanish.

What?? The forms you sign are in Spanish for those doctors?? That wouldn't be legal in the U.S. However, who knows what's legal in Mexico. I can tell you that every form I signed was in English, and there were no extra charges afterward. In fact, they told me beforehand if the Dr. sees a hiatal hernia while he's in there, he'll fix it for free.

I am happy to say that thanks to the good Lord above, my son had his surgery on Aug 20th at Nova hospital with Dr Kelly without any complications. We were very impressed with the nurses and doctors. We incurred no extra costs. We had a wonderful time at the Lucerne hotel.

I had surgery with Dr Kelly in April 2013, my best friend had surgery in May and I have kept in touch with many patients of his I've met along the way. No one has ever mentioned being charged additional fees. I wasn't even charged the extra 500 for my BMI.

All of Florence's paperwork is in Spanish, Nova's is in English.

florence is a hospital...right? & Nova is another hospital...right?

So, how do you get Nova with Dr.Kelly as the surgeon? Do you have a choice?

I wanted to use Dr. Aceves too but could not afford him. It took me way to long just to save for Dr.Kelly's $5400 + $500 bmi + $300 flight. I really wish I could afford Dr.A. All these overage fees freak me out. Seriously, how much should a person have on hand incase they do overcharge ya? Its gonna be a hardship just doing $150-$200 on overages...but I need this surgery.

When I booked directly with Dr Kelly I was told that we would be at Nova. Also' date=' when we were there all the consents were in Spanish.[/quote']

Yeah, I heard paperwork is all in spanish when arriving. Ugh!

Someone in this world needs to invent a scanning type app on a phone or ipad that translates documents into english.

I have heard 150-900. We were not charged anything extra. I also heard that people have negotiated the charges down to as low as half.

No extra charge unless you are over a certain BMI wich translates in longer time , anesthetics and so on. Also for special medication depending on your condition you'll need to pay extra. The second ones are fees charged independently by the hospital and not by Dr Kelly ( if you choose him). This fees are no huge . The guy who had surgery same day as me had to pay 150 US but he had some painfully feet condition needing extra medication an care.

For who is concerned about the Spanish forms you have to know that since Nova hospital is in Mexico and the official language in Mexico is Spanish the legal documents are going to be in Spanish. You did a lot of research to get to this point. Do not worry you are not signing out any organs. These papers are you're consent that you understand the procedure and you agree to have it done to you. If you have any questions you can ask and they will be answered

I have to say, I don't agree with this. Mexicali is in Mexico too, but at Hospital Almater they have a choice of Spanish or English forms, depending on the patient. Nova hospital does (obviously) plenty of surgeries on American and other foreign patients, so I don't understand why they would not offer these legal forms in English... how hard it is to get them professionally translated? Not hard. I'm not saying anyone should cancel their surgery b/c of this alone, but I do think it's one more thing that would make me feel less comfortable and less at ease.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
