Depressed, disappointed, regretful...

Recommended Posts

I had sleeve surgery on july 23 2013. After completing the required 6 month physican supervised diet, and research the pros and cons of the sleeve I was positive that I made the right decision.

Now 2 weeks post op I feel like it was the worst decision of my life. I'm so tired all of the time, and sooooooooooo thirsty. I've had to go to the hospital twice for iv fluids because I fell too full and nauseous that I'm not getting enough fluids, which is making getting the Protein in difficult.

My surgeon says this is just a ''bump in the road'' and prescribed me two different antinausea medications

All I want to do is lay in bed, I'm so unhappy. I would have gladly lived with the medical issues due to being overweight, than live like this.

Has anyone had similar feelings/experiences......what helped?

It will get better, trust me I questioned myself...like why the hell did I do this to myself in the first month or two...dealing with nausea, headaches and serious fatigue, but before I knew it I was able to eat more foods that tastes good and wasn't so tired. You will get there...a year from now you'll be so glad u made this choice :)

You're only two weeks post op and your body is still healing. Like the above posters say, it will get better.

Hang in there, give it a few more weeks!

What your going through is perfectly normal, and many people on here have gone through it, it does get easier, and then before you know it you'll be feeling better then you ever had and thinking it was the best decision you ever made. Good Luck.

It took me about four weeks to really feel like myself again. You also have to remember that your hormones are going crazy right now and that will affect how you are feeling. You are going to have moments when you question your decision, but you need to keep focusing on the future when you are feeling good and losing weight. This IS just a bump in the road and you will be feeling better as each day goes by. Hang in there!

Yes, give it time, you will get there.

I am 7 weeks out and I still feel yucky on some days... Is this normal? I can tolerate eating but have low energy most days. Also struggling with diarrhea all the time, ugh.

So, can you tell me also that it will still get better in time?

BEEN THERE!!! Actually still there some days with the depression. I am 8 weeks post op tomorrow. The exhaustion was horrible for me and I was treated for dehydration 3 times and had one hospitalization 2 weeks ago. Today I don't need naps anymore, the nausea is better, and I can drink more. I still come no where near the Protein and liquid requirements, but each day gets better. I didn't expect the recovery I had at all and thought I was all alone. I can now say it gets better - but the hardest part - just letting yourself heal. sleep when you need to and drink what you can. There were days I just did Clear Liquids and didn't even focus on protein. I did full sugar Popsicles and regular chicken broth with soggy saltines. Those helped me the most. Whatever you do - listen to your body and don't over do it. In the long run, you will not regret this. My thoughts are with you - just know you are not alone in how you are feeling. Use your support team and if you don't have a great one - see a therapist. I have to go once a week right now - despite loving my 40 lbs gone - this is a huge transition.

1st day post op I was puking up blood, had to stay extra days after that because has no desire to eat or drink. Once I got home still totally out of it and actually had MAJOR head spins/dizziness. By week 3 started to have more energy and actually ate. Give it alil time. You're still brand new and nervous. Best wishes to you!

I only had a moment of regret and realized I couldn't change anything, it was done so I worked on getting my fluids in and did have an episode of dehydration. I learned to obsess on getting my fluids in for the past 2 years. Would I Change my decision today? NO. I love my good health and skinny body. It rocks. So it will get better soon. Hang on there and think how good it will be when you feel lighter :P

Thank You All For Your Encouragement......It Really Does Help Me Feel Like Things Will Get Better. Right Now I Think My Biggest Struggle Is Feeling Thirsty And Not Being Able To Satisfy The Thirst. I "Sip Sip Sip" As Much As Possible, But Its Really Not Satisfying, In Fact Its More Of A Tease. I've Tried Popsicles, But Really They Make Me More Thirsty. Any Ideas? Those That Are Further Out From Surgery, Have You Found That You ARe Able To Drink Enough To Quench Your Thirst, How Long Did It Take To Get To That Point? Again Thanks For All The Feedback I Really Appreciate It!

I love to suck on frozen fruit, and if its too chunky just spit it out, but it all breaks down really good! It makes my mouth cold and feels satisfied. Just a idea :) good luck!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
