I am taking the advice of a good friend on this site and easing into my diet. I am scheduled for August 30th and I only have a week pre op required because of my BMI of 35. I am starting now, mainly because I have been in this "eat while I can" mindset and I have put on a few more pounds. The last 2 days I have cut out sugar in my coffee and I am using Nectresse (not bad because I am not a fan of artificial sweeteners)and a little agave (not much because too mush is to sweet. I also stopped drinking sugary sodas. This has been just days and I have already lost 2 pounds. Trust me, cutting out processed sugar and white flour will cut down your craving for carbs. I totally agree with ARts137. It amazes me that there is so much difference in diets among us sleevers. Mine pre op consist of Protein shake for Breakfast and lunch and a salad or Lean and Green dinner. I am also allowed another Protein Shake if I need it. JPSnAZ, my recommendation would be have an extra Protein shake if you are hungry. I know that doesn't sound appetizing but it will help with your hunger. Good Luck and I can't wait to hear about your journey :)

Smart move! And thanks for the nice words!

I am having the hardest time not cheating on my pre-op diet!

My surgery is Aug. 8th and I have to do a 2 week' date=' clear liquid only diet. I do really well all day until about dinner time. The thing that gets me is I know some other people get certain food, or only have to do 1 week or 3 days before surgery and still are fine.

What were you allowed on your pre-op diet and how long did you have to do it for? (Im curious cuz doctors are so different!)

Did everyone have willpower of steel and went a full 2 weeks with no cheating???

or does everyone cheat a little bit??[/quote']

I'm on day 6 and I'm am struggling! The first 3 days were ok but I must say its not getting easier... And yes pretty frustrating to hear others who don't have such a hard pre op diet, if I could have just one extra light whatever a day it would be ooooh so much better! I must say at 4 days in I was down 7lbs but it's been tough. I have not cheated but felt close I am trying to stay focused but Aug 13th can't come faster! Stay focused we can do this ugh....

I've been doing the ore surgery diet for about 4 weeks. No sugar and under 33carbs. Today is my first of 2 days of the liquid diet before surgery on Thursday. I never thought I would miss chewing so much. A little hungry but not starving but just want o chew on something (I've been chewing gum -not cutting it). The coffee table is starting to look good right now:)

Thank you for this re-post laura-ven. I'm starting my pre-op diet tomorrow (a few days before I'm required to) and this was exactly what I needed to hear!

I'm so close to scheduling my appointment with my surgeon and setting a date. I really needed this post. The risks involved with surgery aren't worth the cheating.

I've gained 8 lbs in the last two months. It's like the closer I get the more I obsess about food. This thread has motivated me to get on track before my pre-op diet starts.

Thank you!

I'm in the same boat with many of you! Had to start my pre-op/liquid only diet early because I was on an eating bender which was making me crazy. My misery loves your company. It really is nice to know that none of us is alone. Hang in there friends!

I'm on day 4 of a 4 week liquid diet. Gahhh. Even though lots of docs have different requirements , its best to listen to yours. 2 weeks isn't that bad. Today my husband asked me to go to McDonalds for him since u was gonna be out running errands and he was home working on my car. I nearly hit the roof, totally flipped out on him. Came home and my Soup broth.oh yum. :) good luck!

4 weeks of liquid is ROUGH!!!! Good luck to you!

I was the exact same way, the closer I was getting to surgery, the more my eating got out of control. I was just freaking out about not getting to eat all my favorite things for a VERY long time. Now here I am, my surgery is in the morning and Ive been crying cuz Im so sad about losing my food! Which is why I need this surgery in the first place, I need to get control over this!

Hi there! Just want to wish you lots of good thoughts for an easy surgery tomorrow!!! Mine is scheduled for the 26th, with all liquids starting on the 13th. I started myself on one shake a day in place of dinner this week to help prepare. I took my "final food tour" last week and it was getting ridiculous. I feel a lot more in control this week, though hungry as hell...

Anyway, good luck. Stay hydrated in that Arizona heat!! I lived in Scottsdale til two years ago. It can get brutal!!

XO

My friends and struggle-mates... This is a great thread!

food has such power over us all. I am learning to HATE what that damned stuff has done to our heads as well as our fat bodies. I gotta say that the longer post-sleeve I am the more I am pissed off and the less I want to worry about "losing my food" Am at the beach with family, and we had a pizza party and I enjoyed all, brought my own food, and loved it. pizza is SO not worth it, and I'll be damned if I'll let pizza win...

Period!

Not gonna lie, the thought of cheating crosses my mind often. I'm a social eater and found my self today standing in the break room chatting with coworkers and somewhere during the convo (not even sure when) I picked up a bagel and began to eat it. Once I notcied what I was doing, I spit the rest of it out.

I just started my liquid diet yesterday and have 13 more days to go! Its hard but we can do it! I have to keep reminding myself....Nothing taste as good as being thin and healthy feels!

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
