I'm 7 weeks post op and was curious as to when diet soda is allowed for most? I don't have a drs apt until the end of sept so ill ask him then but I'm curious as to what others do if any at all.

The typical rule is 'never', because of the carbonation. You will get many different stories from some people making if flat and drinking it, and others just flat drinking it. Personally, I'm almost 9 months, and I am 100% soda free. I gave it up before my pre-op and now that it's out of my system I don't even miss it. I try to eat a lot cleaner, and even the diet sodas are so full of artificial sweeteners, and other stuff, I don't think it's worth it. It's a personal choice for everyone, but most surgeons label soda as a 'never again', all are different though. Good luck.

I hate to burst your bubble, but soda and carbonation are not allowed ever again. It can stretch your pouch. I feel for you, I really do. The #1 thing I find hardest to even think of giving up is soda. However, after all I've gone through to get to this point, I cannot for a second consider doing something that might undermine my surgery. So no soda for me. I've already incorporated a new drink into my daily regimen, and cut back my soda from 3-4 a day to 1. But what I'm going to do is continue to drink my favorite diet soda, after it's sat long enough for most of the fizz to be gone. I mean, come on ... first, I had to give up alcohol, then I had to give up cigarettes, now I have to give up candy and most/all Desserts. It's sadistic to add soda to the list. But ... c'est la vie ... what will be, will be. Good luck to you.

Yeah. Losing soda was a hard one for me too. I was a true diet cokeohaulic. I weaned myself off so that a month pre op i was soda free. Total 5 months now. Still miss it (sigh) but I've pushed thru too much to revert back to old vices. I'm steadily losing(not as quick as I'd like. But as quickly as I need to) and I feel better already so I am anxiously looking forward to how I will feel minus another hundred pounds.

I was a 30 year Diet Coke addict. Like 4 liters a day. I had to give it up several years ago after I burned my esophagus ( don't ask). Then, about a year later, I tried drinking a diet Sprite. It burned all the way down! It was horrible! Was enough to make me swear off soda forever.

I'll bet you will find the same thing if you try drinking diet soda after having been off of it for awhile.

Another Diet Coke addict here... I haven't had any since a few days before surgery (in fact, I'm 9 weeks and 1 day clean as of today!) and while I do miss it at times, I know that I'm better off without it.

It is not allowed by my doctor (lap band) and won't be after I have revision surgery. I had to quit drinking soda for other medical reasons, and then had one after a year or so of not drinking any, and it tasted awful.

I was told never preferably. But if I wanted soda to wait three months. Then pour over ice and let it go flat.

I enjoy a Pepsi next from time to time. But it is a treat not a major staple in my diet.

brittersmom - Since you haven't replied to any of the responses to your original post, is it safe to assume you're thoroughly bummed and/or hate what you heard?

Sorry I haven't replied. I had a garage sale this morning. I've been super busy. I completely understand the no pop. I'm bummed but I've been without for 9 weeks so I'm sure I can handle it : (

I too was a diet dr pepper addict...drank it almost 50 years. I quit cold turkey and discovered diet peach tea ( Snapple). It's the hardest thing I've had to give up but I'm committed to a new healthy life. Pop is full of chemicals and can eat thru my new stomach. Hang in.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
