Almost no restriction- depressed and stressed

Recommended Posts

I am around 9-10 weeks out and can eat around 60% of my old capacity. I can eat 12-16 ounces of food with Normal size bites and chewing. I can chug liquids without even thinking about it. I feel like my surgery was a failure. My doctor said "just cause you CAN eat 16 ounces doesn't mean you should"

well, no kidding but why did I go through all of this just for a slight reduction! I know surgery is a tool but there's no honeymoon period here! I watch everything I eat to keep at 1200 calories and it's a concerted effort. I do the elliptical for 45 minutes a day, 5 days a week. Results are so slow and I have been stalled for 4 or 5 weeks straight now. I am having NSVs but still can't help to feel depressed. My doc basically said that he doesn't want to over- restrict so I woud struggle to eat but I feel I have no boundaries, other than my own self imposed restrictions. I don't want to go through it again so I guess I just have to take the desire to loose and work hard...

Did you get the sleeve? I've never heard of that.

I am so sorry to hear this. My heart hurts for you. I hope you find a way to make it work for you even if it is harder than it should be.

I got gastric plication which I know is different but in principal, it restricts the stomach's capacity and should yield the same level of restriction. My friend had it and has restriction just lie the sleeve.

Thanks. It is hard to think I went through all this but that's the cards I was dealt. I just need to want this bad enough and work hard

60% of your old capacity will go a long way in the end. After my surgery, the absolute only thing I struggled with, and still have a hard time with is steak. Fajitas I do good with, but if it's just a grilled steak, I have a hard time eating. I felt like I didn't have any real restrictions. I'd chug Water, I sip water still while I eat,and I went through some periods where my weight wouldn't drop for the life of me. But, here I am, 5 months after surgery and I'm down 90 pounds since. Don't get so discouraged that you think it was all a waste of time, please just give it time, continue to work hard and do what you're supposed to do, and you'll see results.

Are you drinking when you eat? That could be the reason you can take in so much.

I can't remember are you coming from a band?

No. This was my first big step with a wls. I had gastric plication which is different but in theory I should have more restriction. I chose plication because insurance covered all but 5,000 of it and no insurance clearing process (and my BMI wasn't high enough to qualify for any other wls)

I try not to but I love spicy food so sometimes I have 1-2 small to cool the burn but as a rule, I generally don't. Another vet here explained to me about the phyloric valve (sp?) so since then, I don't drink before or after.

Ok I don't know why I thought you went from band to plication... It sounds though from what little I know that you will be able to take in more than the sleeve. Also I bet your stomach healed a lot faster than ours! Really at about the six month mark our stomachs relax a bit and we can get more in. I think it may have happened a lot sooner for you? This is all just me thinking out loud....

I'm sorry I don't want to sound ignorant, I've never heard of your procedure before, what exactly is it, Is it like bypass or band. I was sleeve 8 weeks ago, I came from conversion from the band and at the beginning I was eating a lot less amount than I do now, and also Stall for like 3 weeks now. It's driving me crazy. But I just decided to let it be, keep my Protein intake up and drink my Water. DONT GIVE UP!!! You can do it, you'll have all the support you need here in this site. GOOD LUCK

Gastric Plication is a procedure where the stomach tissue is folded into itself, limiting the capacity of the stomach from about 50 ounces to 4 to 8 ounces. No cutting or removal of tissue is performed so the risk of complications are much smaller than traditional gastric bypass operations.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
