Abdominal exercise- what did your doc say?

Recommended Posts

I am shocked but my doc said no abdominal exercise for ONE YEAR! That seems so extreme- what did your doctor say?

Mine dr said 4 weeks! And I specifically asked about workout classes/dance and ab workouts and he said it was fine but if I notice discomfort to stop and don't push it. I have been doing abs since 4 weeks and haven't had any problem (I'm only on week 6)!

Same here, I was cleared at 4 weeks with the understanding that I take it slow until 6-8 weeks out.

Thanks. I thought a year seemed excessive!

My activity orders r no lifting over 15 lbs and no abdominal exercises for 6 wks. I see my dr at 4 wks, so he may clear me early. Im in no hurry, however. Starting back to the gym tomorrow (walk on the treadmill) and I can't imagine doing crunches right now (Im 2 wks out).

A year does seem excessive. I reread my orders the other day and had mksunderstood them in the beginning. Thought I wasn't sposed to lift over 5 lbs (a gallon of milk weighs more than 5 lbs)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
