I had my sleeve July 29, 2013. So I'm only in my second week post-op. I'm really struggling. I feel hungry nearly all the time, which is not at all what I thought I would feel. Help! What's your secret words of wisdom??

So I am 12 days post op ... Sleeved July 22. Can anyone else give me a run down of a typical day what are you eating/ drinking?? I feel like maybe I am eating too often ? Or too much? My dr told me to ease into solid foods so tonight I had probably 1/4 of a can of progreso minestrone Soup for dinner but also had a little bit of puréed potatoes with finely chopped turkey deli meat for lunch and 1/2 can of Tomato bisque for Breakfast - somewhere in there I also had a Protein Drink ... Just wondering where others are at?

I was sleeved on July 29th. I'm really struggling, I feel hungry all the time. My typical day is a broken down into 6 x 1/2 cup of smoothies or pureed Soups. With cups of tea in between. I'm not having any Protein. My doc never mentioned...perhaps this is why I'm so hungry? I also have an odd pain in the middle of my chest almost like an air bubble coming up or something? Anyone else? I'm so glad I've joined this forum and really looking forward to helpful hints!

I had the same pain. Dr said it was esophageal spasms. Drink smaller sips- even smaller than you think. It will go away. I was sleeved 07/01.

Sip, sip, sip. The sleeve is healing. I tried a Protein shake a few days earlier than I should, the sleeve like it but my taste buds did not. Now both are in alignment and all is well.

I've had skim milk and was so surprised how the sleeve liked it; 8oz of skim is 8g of Protein.

I tried a home made turkey salad, used my mini chopper to prepare it, sleeve. Approved.

The sleeve likes grits too! Not so much the sting cheese.

Wonton Soup is approved.

Enjoy your new discoveries.

Keep up the great work.

Hi! I was sleeved on the 25th and still on liquids... You mentioned that your 'sleeve' liked certain things and not others. What do you mean? How did you feel when it didn't like something? Not quite sure what to expect when I eventually move into puréed foods in about a week...

Thank you' date=' I don't think they intentionly tried to hurt me either however my sister had been up visiting feom texas when I had my surgery with my nieces & nephews & everyone went out for Breakfast the day b4 she left which was on tuesday 2 days b4 my daughters birthday & I was asked to go & I did go & had my protien shake so I don't understand why I was left out the next time they went out. My daughter had asked while out at breakfast if we were going to take her out for hwr birthday & I had told her I believed that her graduation/birthday party plus her gifts which came to over 2, 000 for the party & all was more than enough & that we would not be doing anything else. Well she went behind my back & re-asked everyone but me & they left me out. I was only asked again after I had a melt down & got into an argument with everyone. Maybe I was the one in the wrong I dont know.[/quote']

You were not in the wrong! Your daughter was! She received all of that for your birthday and STILL went behind your back asking for MORE? I know we all have times in our lives where our kids are less than stellar. You should sit her down and let her know how disappointed you are that she could be this selfish, AND to leave you out as a punishment it seems for your not wanting to do the dinner after everything else? Do what mom's do best and make her feel so guilty she never tries THAT maneuver again! Lol sorry this happened. I could see my fam not inviting me while I am on liquids. But right now I suffer the opposite. My bf cooks dinner in front of me eats in front of me and leaves it out like he is wanting me to have some. Tempting me with no regards for how I feel.

Hi I had my gastric sleeve july 18th. The first 2 days were the worst for me with the gas pains. I am doing very well now & I am 15lbs down since friday when I came home from the hospital. It may be more then that but I forgot to weigh myself before just going in & my scale & the hospital scale is off by 7lbs. At home I weighed 321lbs when I came home but at the hospital I weighed 314lbs... I am able to get in my 3 protien shakes they told me to drink but I know I do not get in as much Water & other fluids as I should. Next week I start the pureed food & was wondering what did many of you eat during that stage? I am thinking baby food may be the easiest on my belly but would love any suggestions for all of you <img src='http://www.bariatricpal.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

my surgery was the 24th... I used baby gas drops the first week and it was a life saver and now I always carry around the chewable anti gas/simethicone .... I'm sure it will be part of my life from here out its a lifesaver and can relieve the pressure in your chest plus it's on 88 cents at Walmart

Reading all the posts about eating different foods, I guess I need to experiment more. I guess I'm just afraid to eat something and get sick. I'm eating the usual chicken, eggs, cheese. I haven't tried veggies or fruits. Breads are ok but depends on the bread. And when I eat chicken the sauces don't seem to bother me. I'm going to be adventurous and try more things :-)

Thank you very much. However that very same night after dinner she moved out to go live with her boyfriend for a month & then will be starting college from there, so no time to do anything about it. I will never forget it though that is for sure. She has always been sneaky like that & has always played people especially her father & my mother against me to get her way so that was nothing new, just her usual selfish ways. J have tried to teach her better thwn that but she would just go farther into being selfish & rude. That is part of the reason many of her friends stop hanging iut with her bwcause she is very selfish & never cared about her friends feeling either. She will learn the hard way is all I can say. It is very sad. Even the day I came home she never once asked how I was feeling or if I was okay. Never came to the hospital to see me nor even called. Just sad is all I can say

I am afraid to eat bread- afraid it will expand and hurt my staple line or something....

Sleeved July 24. Trying different foods when I feel bored with my usual. Ate a Lunchable with turkey and cheddar. Took me two meals to finish it but it worked. Cottage cheese, eggs, Swai, American singles and refried Beans have helped spice up my Protein shake diet. All in 1/4 cup servings. Getting in Water is a struggle. I take chewable Centrum Silver. Curious about trying liquid multi Vitamins and adding to my shakes. Anyone try that? Heartburn every day-Dr put me on Prilosec. Pre-op 231. Today 216. Slow and steady it goes I guess.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
