I was sleeved on June 11th. Has anyone else tried spaghetti this soon? I've been craving this for days

Have not had Pasta, rice or potatoes as they take up volume with no little to no Protein. When you're cleared for cooked vegies maybe try spaghetti squash?

Yeah, I tried spaghetti and meatballs about a month out. I thought the meatballs would be soft and easy to eat. BIG mistake, HUGE! (Sorry, just watched Pretty Woman again.)

Overfull is the only way I can describe it. And upset my little tummy. I don't know if it was the tomatoes in the marinara sauce, or the wheat from the spaghetti, but it taught me a lesson. Not to eat spaghetti.

On the other hand, a couple of weeks ago I had Pad Thai with chicken. It contains rice noodles. I didn't have any problems with that.

If you are going to try it, take small bites, slowly, and don't drink. I swear the spaghetti mixed with the Water I used to wash it down and it expanded! Taught me to remember not to drink until at least 30 min after eating, though, so not an all bad experience.

It's way too early for that. If you aren't yet, you should be on the soft solids. I was sleeved on the June 10th and that's where I am. I have my next NUT appt. on Aug. 1st and will hopefully transition to the next phase, but even once you are able to have Pasta, it is recommended that you have wheat pasta so you aren't consuming white starches. Don't rush things. Take this time to incorporate more healthy eating strategies. The last thing we want to do is to fall back into unhealthy eating after putting our bodies through this surgery.

I continue to be amazed at the different nutritional programs post-WLS...my NUT's program does not allow any starches (including pasta) until at least maintenance stage; i.e., 6 to 8 months out...this is not medical advice, but I would not eat spaghetti now (and I am at 2 months post-op)

I was strongly advised to avoid Pasta too for at least 3 months, Technically I was approved to have it at 6 weeks out (as I was cleared for all foods), but as others have said, it has no nutrional value for you and for many it does not sit well. Carbs have always triggered the want for more carbs for me so I tend to avoid them. It is very early in your journey, try not to give into the cravings if you can. Good luck!

I made spaghetti squash and meatballs around that time :). I love meatballs. Or you could go with the ricotta bake if you just want the cheesy gooey yumminess :)

Yup...rice, Pasta, and noodles...completely off the menu for me permanently. I had a REALLY bad experience with rice and am afraid the same/similar will happen with pasta or noodles, so I just skip them. Also, all of these things are empty calories. Since you need to focus on Protein might I suggest just sauce and meatballs? Or instead try spaghetti squash...it is delicious roasted with some marinara and a meatball or two. Also, I make lasagna using zucchini slices in place of the lasagna noodles...everything else the same. Also a delicious alternative.

Mmm...yes, Ashelaine, RICOTTA BAKE!!

I was sleeved June 11th and I am not testing my luck with starches. They are my weakness!!!! But I do want to make some little meatballs in my crockpot. Look, I'm making myself hungry! Lol.

I was the same way! What I did is I made my hubby & son spaghetti,& kept some of the sauce on the side. Then I used a can of Campbell's cheese Soup & a can od skim milk then pit a lil' of sauce in it! OMG! It's been the best meal for me yet so far! Cheesey with the sauce was awesome! I also added some unflavored Protein powder to it. I only could eat about a cup of it. Froze the rest & ate on that. Good luck.

My plan doesn't allow any carbs (pasta, bread, rice, etc) Until your pretty much at goal weight. I have had meatballs with sauce though, and that sat fine!

It may be a little too early for it ~ I'm a little over 5 months out and can eat it just fine now though!

I have had some cravings for that kind of thing - I am only 2 wks Post-Op. But, I know I could not have it until at least 4-6 months out. Maybe, just make a poached egg and blend it up with a teaspoon of spagetti sauce. But, you should really be eating just pureed food right now. Or you will pay for it.

I feel the same way and I'm only a week out! A good friend who is 1 year out reminded me that I am still healing! You don't want to cause any unnecessary problems!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
