Gestational diabetes test NIGHTMARE!

Recommended Posts

I drank the nasty stuff this morning at the doc and immediately felt cold sweats and clammy. Then I started throwing up. I feel terrible. They want me to come back Friday and do the "jelly bean" test. Never heard of it but I do hope it goes better than this test did. I will be spending the day resting.

I got also got so sick from drinking that nasty crap, they told me I would have to do the jelly Beans, but I told my doc that doesn't make any sense, it'll make me sick as well. So they told me to eat what I regularly eat in the mornings, & thank God my test came back fine.

The jelly bean test was easy breezy actually. I don understand why they don't do that test for all pregnant people. Doesn't make sense.

I'm very nervous about this test... I have mine scheduled on Aug 6th... this is not my first child but I could barely handle the drink with my other pregnancies unsleeved... so I'm very concerned since I'm sleeved now! Glad to know there are other options if I can't handle it!

I only had to eat 18 jelly Beans in 5 min. I think the drink (10 ounces shoved in our sleeve in 5 min) was the problem. My sleeve can't hold 10 ounces all at once so it came back up. Then I felt terrible. Yes, the sugar in the jelly beans made me feel kinda poopy but I drank Water after to flush out and felt better. Ask for the jelly bean test. It's way better.

That drink went down the hatch with no problem. It was a small drink.

Well I went Tuesday for this dreaded test... I really struggled to finish the drink.... thankfully the nurse's husband had a gastric bypass... so she knew exactly my concerns and gave me a little extra time to finish the drink. Well after finishing I was so concerned about the hour wait... I started to feel very miserable 5 minutes in. And It happened... I ran to the bathroom and puked the entire thing back up! It was disgusting.... My obgyn says he may want to try again... but he also did an ultrasound to measure the baby and baby looks great and right on target. ... he then said he does not see a concern for gestational diabetes and he is gonna let me skip the test! Woo Hoo! So very glad cause I don't think I could even try to drink that drink again!

I told you. It was like torture. I don't understand why they just don't jelly bean test all pregnant people. It's so much easier. Why put a pregnant person through that if there's an easier way? Being pregnant itself is hard enough.

Ask if they do the jelly bean test instead. I was terrified too. The drink test attempt did not go well at all.

If you are 9 or 10 months out from surgery...this test will not be bad. For me 1.7 years out it was nothing... If I were under six months out I would not have been able to take this test. I would not be able to hold all that liquid!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
