Just heard something that makes me want to cry.. a lady at work approached me and asked if I was excited about the surgery. . I told her all that was going on with me. She then tells me she has already had her ekg, met the surgeon, and goes Thursday to get her surgery date.. I asked her when she started her journey and we started at the same time... :'( now tell me it's not personal!

I think you should see a different dr. If the insurance already approved you, you should be able to go somewhere else. I am sorry this is happening with you. Keep your head up and please dont let them get you down. It will happen.

Nope she has the same health insurance that I do.. She told me that her sister works at the hospital though.. So that's my guess!

I would find out who her boss is, in a hospital, there will almost always be someone higher, or if you can, speak to the surgeon directly. You can still change Drs, once insurance approves the surgery, your good. (from my understanding)

Hang in there, girl! It was frustrating to call my advocate and have to leave her a voicemail. Especially when her greeting says "... leave ONE message and I'll get back to you as soon as I can", in a bit of a snooty tone of voice. There were several days I'd wanted to talk to her because I felt like someone had dropped the ball somewhere because of how long it was taking. She started calling me back while I was indisposed and she called like 8 times and sent me two emails that I needed another weigh in. If your doctor's practice is anything like mine, they are completely inundated with people and constantly busy. Don't lose heart!!! It'll be your turn soon to have their undivided attention and things will start moving along faster. Maybe even faster than you'd like! ;)

I would definitely call the office manager and let him/her know that there has been a problem. Tell them the whole story starting with the original submission of your paperwork to now. And just let them know you need to know if there is some sort of problem. So you can follow up if there is. I know you don't wanna stretch this out by going to someone else but they don't have to know this. There is definitely someone above this coordinators head and that is where I would go. If this is a hospital program there is a long line of administrators above her. And every hospital has a hotline for complaints. The squeaky wheel gets the grease. MAKE SOME NOISE GIRL!!!!!

Edit: let them know about the coworker that state the program the same time you did. I would share all the details.

You know this is the same exact thing that happened to me....same thing. I called another place and told them MY INSURANCE IS READY TO PAY FOR MY SURGERY, I FULL FILLED ALL THEIR REQUIREMENTS AND THEY HAVE APPROVED THE PROCEDURE. I would like one of your doctors to get this money since the people that I started the process with seems too busy to get this money!!

The young lady on the phone Jessica said wow ok, never had this happened b4, let me speak to the office manager. I held on for about 4mins, she came back and said ok you're good to go, come meet the surgeon next week and we'll schedule you for August 7th.

I called my original hospital and told them to fax all my files to xyz's office because MY COORDINATOR IS TOO BUSY AND IM TOO BUSY TOO. The woman said hold on, the coordinator picked up the line and said someone canceled and she can get me in August 14th. Less than 20 mins ago she wanted to schedule me for the end of September.....

The place I was going to change to is more than an hour from me, but I knew they wouldn't let $50-60k go, that'll be just plain stupid!

Send a thank you card with a gift card for dinner or a fruit bouquet or something. That will bump you up to the top of the list no matter how busy she is. Sometimes people need a little motivation to do their job as effeciently as they should.

So I finally did it.. I sent the lead person of the unit an email this evening explaining everything.. she emailed me back within 30mins saying that she will look into it and get back to me tomorrow... this is the email that I sent her.. do you think that I got my point across? :D

Good afternoon Amy..

How are you this evening? As for me well I am sure that I could be better. As you may or may not know I am an active patient going through the bariatric program. The reason that I am writing you today is that there are something that are bothering me in the care that I am receiving. First of all I want to say that I love RMH, I try to stay local as often as possible when it comes to my medical care.

With that being said I started my journey in January of this year. When I started the journey I knew going into it that it wouldn’t be something that happened over night. I have done all of the tests that have been required of me in a timely manner and tried my best to stay on top of my care. I like to know what’s going on and where things are in the process. I understand that there is a protocol to how things are done. And I understand completely the need for such protocol.

All of my documents were submitted to insurance and I received approval from my insurance company on June 21st. I was so excited and looking forward to finishing the process and getting my new lifestyle started. With that being said the wrong procedure had been submitted to insurance for approval. Which has caused delays in my care that I don’t think should have been there. When I started my journey Bonnie and I had talked and I was still undetermined as to which procedure I wanted. I have been in constant contact with her via phone, email. I have also been in the office several times since the beginning of my journey and not once was it asked of me as to which procedure I wanted before it got sent to insurance. Thus causing a delay.

A co-worker of mine started her journey around the same time that I did. However she took a few months off from hers due to other health conditions. Her and I spoke the other night and she has been ushered through the entire process and received her surgery date today. I find this ludacris, how can we have the same insurance and the same care provider but she has the fast track and I am being stalled?

Another things that is concerning me is the way that I am being treated by Bonnie. I know that I may be a bit of a worry-wart. And I know that your office is a very busy place, and that I am not the only patient that you all have. I am not that naive. However as a patient I don’t want my doctors or doctors assistants to be rude to me, not return emails and/or phone calls. As an example today when I called her to ask about my progress when she answered the phone she was super happy and nice, as soon as she heard that it was me on the other end you could hear her tone change completely.

I don’t think that I am asking for special care. And I don’t think that I am asking too much. I just honestly feel that my care and myself are being ignored. And as a paying patient I feel that my care should be just as good as everyone else’s. If there is something that I am doing or not doing for that matter that is delaying the process that I would like to know. Other than that I don’t see why my progress is so slow. I normally don’t complain when it comes to things like this. However this has literally gone too far.

Thank you very much for your time,

Crystal

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
