I'm having my surgery at INOVA Fair Oaks in Virginia (outside of DC). I only have to do the liquid diet for 2 days before the surgery to help shrink the liver.

Does anyone have the pre-op requirement to lose weight but not to lose more than 4 BMI points of your original weight? I am with Mexico Bariatric Center, my surgeon is Dr. Valenzuela, and that is their requirement.

I weighed my highest -285 lbs- when I was approved. 4 BMI lower than that would be 262 lbs. Well today I am 269 lbs and I have 11 whole days left. I have been losing at a rate of 3.8 lbs per week and I'm worried I am going to be under that 262 lbs! I have been following the prescribed pre-op diet exactly. Maybe they shouldn't have made me do 3 weeks of it instead of the regular 2 weeks. Ay yi yi. Maybe I need to eat more calories but at this stage I don't feel that hunger and carb craving any more.

Drink drink drink your water! Dont sip! Actually drink a litre in a sitting..you will feel full after that :) Try a sugar free popsicle..bite on that..it will help.. chew sugar free gum...even drink diet pop..the carbonation will cause your stomach to feel full..if in doubt after al of these...take a spoon of benefibre or metemucil to get some fibre in...and keep distracted...BACK AWAY FROM THE FRIDGE and NO ONE GETS HURT!!

Lots of Jello and sugar free ice pops! My doctor had me tart taking my calcium chews and since the taste so good I saved those for the point in every day when I felt I had to chew something. I also put ice into all of my drinks, I was able to get down more that way for some reason.

As for myself I found that the first few days were the hardest. I drank a lot of Water and tried to get as much Protein as I could in what I was getting. Syntrax Nectar is pretty good I might add. If I got hunger pains I would sip a cup of hot tea or broth to quiet the old stomach down again. I found an unflavored Protein Powder that I can add a scoop to juices or water too.

Thanks for the information. I start my per op diet on Sept 9 and I am more anxious about that than the surgery!

My surgery is scheduled for Sept 24. I started my 800 calorie a day diet this week. It's been tough, but I have been good. I'm not really too nervous about the surgery itself, but more nervous about the eating after. I mean as in like what can I come up with and being successful at eating the right things. But at the same time I am very excited about discovering a new me :)

My surgery date is September 30th in Ypsilanti' date=' MI.

who else is in september? what are your thoughts? are you excited??!!! Nervous?[/quote']

My date is sept 4th, I'm super excited but I'm also nervous. Scared to death that I won't be able to keep anything down after surgery. I have so many fears and scares they are nowhere in comparison to my excitements and advantages of having this surgery!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
