The surgery now is going to be a fusion. I would like to know if anyone knows anyone who has had this done. He's also going to put cadaver bone in to build up my spine which is deteriorating.

The previous surgery was a laminectomy and it made my back worse.

Denise I only wanted comments deleted if we add them. Since we are just holding steady, doesn't matter to me. As far as I am concerned you have my blessing to reply to requests that we aren't accepting new members, not about 5:2, and will likely shut down vs expanding. I don't want you to feel bad for having to be the messenger!

Florinda, I ask myself if weighing 165 is better than 200, 300 and universally the answer is YES. I get frustrated too and wish I was trimmer/thin as I used to be. 145 seems impossible to me right now...and yet I keep coming back to avoiding the all or nothing thinking. For me, maintaining right here, even though I wish for skinniness, is a good place to be. Perhaps losing 5# a month is realistic and it is still a good place to be?

I took my first salsa and bachata lesson. Salsa was hard for me....

I missed out doing the swing thing this week because I was on a"first date" that went way long and I lost track of time!

5 lbs a month is a reasonable and healthy goal - I'll take it over gaining more any day of the week :)

The posts on eating more fats reminded me of an old favorite - fat guacamole devils (the name is almost as good as the recipe is) - these are delicious!

Denise - I hope this new surgery will help - sending healing thoughts your way!

Thought I would branch out and go read some other posts on the board for once in my life - just want to say that I think it is probably a good idea that Lipsticklady isn't in the group- she seems to take things really personally, and seems that she could be a 'pot-stirrer' - not that I know her at all.

I dunno - I tend to stay pretty far away from folks who don't seem to recognize that text carries no inflection - that if you are getting hurt and upset by posts that are not blatant attacks or harassment - that it is you who is bringing the negative vortex into play. Reminds me of having to go over this constantly with our girls and other folks on the web - pre-teen stuff.

I think I might try the Keto a bit - I have never upped the fat that much, sounds like an interesting concept. I checked out that thread about regain on the vets forum and this link - interesting stuff - Coops, it's interesting that a shot of olive oil could possibly shake things up a bit :)

Yeah, I don't really want to add anyone to this group. I think when I get some extra time, I will pm anyone who hasn't posted and ask if they want to be removed from the group. I can always say you can come back in if you start to post again. The person I am thinking of is Brown. I would gladly let her back in.

Sheryl, I hope your first date is promising!

I've never counted anything except carbs. A low carb diet is natural in higher fats. You can have things like mayo, butter, ( I don't) but if you aren't eating carbs, you can't help but eat more fats. My downfall is Salad Dressing. you don't count the carbs but I am sure it's high in calories.

Kelly, that is so interesting! Thanks for sharing that link. I had just recently started reading about macros and that seems to spell it all out and calculate everything. I'm going to play around with it some more.

I found it a bit humorous that Lipstick thinks we talk about her in this group. We are talking about her right now but rarely do we talk about anyone other than ourselves and what's going on in our lives! We are all busy and sometimes don't even have enough time to update here much less sit here and talk about the other members of BP. Lol

I wish Brown would come back and update. Sheila too. I'm sure there are others that aren't coming to me right now.

Sheryl, come clean with the details on the date!

I have gone on a couple of casual dates. I saw someone named Jim a few times... nice man, family oriented, fit, many good attributes but he just did not appeal to me. needy was the big reason. Also, do you ever meet someone who meets your requirements, and yet you still just don't find them appealing? weird. I decided to not keep seeing him.

I have seen a man named Dan a few times - he is a Data Scientist at a big software company but is ALSO a professional musician. He is fun. i wish he were fitter, but I really enjoy his company so I am going to keep seeing him... still very light and casual. I am going to watch him play music for the second time at a big festival that is coming up - looking forward to that.

The person I just met, Doug was a bit of a surprise. We just had a glass of wine and delicious shrimp at the restaurant at the Willows Lodge and talked for hours. I think we are going either out on his (very small) boat or perhaps for a hike this weekend.

To be honest, i am not feeling very relationship ready at the moment. I feel like the longer I am single, the less I am interested in something that fits the traditional "relationship" mode. I dont know what is wrong with me, but I just see it as not really worth the effort.

I am having some health problems right now too ... and I suspect that impacts my attitude as well.

Went to an art opening at my local gallery, here is a pic of my friend and gallery owner Mima, my crazy neighbor Robert and me....Cant really see my figure there... Bill Cosby sweater around hips and fake snake purse in the way... Had a fun night, saw lots of old friends, glass of wine... nice weather. Got home and Craig messaged he was on the way home early... he went on a motorcycle trip to Montana for 9 days.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
