Well I tried to eat some nice mashed sweet potato with a little butter! It was delicious, but after a few bites that sick feeling started creeping in! I haven't thrown up once since surgery, but I knew it was coming! To my surprise it was all phlegm!! No food! Sorry to be so gross!! Has anyone else had this?

The slimies! Yes, people talk about this often. People also refer to this a 'sliming'. It can either be phlegmy or almost like just spit, but it is the precursor to really throwing up, it just means you ate too much.

Gross! But the weird thing is that I hardly ate anything! Just a few bites! Maybe I ate too fast cuz I was excited? I don't know! This is not helping my regret mode! I'm only 2 weeks and a couple of days out! Please tell me this gets better?

I first had the 'slimies' around the same time, about 2 weeks out. I was eating some really mushed up anise root that I had boiled to oblivion in chicken broth, I got them after only about 3-4 bites. Scared the hell out of me. I am pretty sure my sleeve just wasn't ready for that vegetable. You will find your sleeve is picky. Maybe it won't tolerate mashed sweet potato, but maybe it will love mashed banana...very strange indeed, but yes, it gets WAY better :) Congrats on being such a new sleever, and welcome to the losers bench!

I went to the doc about this today!! She didn't call it the "slimies," but that's exactly what I had! Mine wasn't due to a particular food, it was just the buildup of mucus in my sleeve! I am now on Claritin and Mucinex (not D!) I got the Claritin redo-tabs and they were super easy to take... The Mucinex, however, was impossible to get down!! It was a nasty, blueberry liquid... I don't know how I'm going to finish my first dosage!!!

Thanks to both of you! I was wondering if it was a build up of mucous of some kind! I do have awful allergies! Also, maybe I shouldn't have used butter on the potato, even though it was just a little! I'm hoping since I got rid of that Mucous it'll help me eat! Case in point! The

Potato made me sick, but I just ate a sf Jello pudding and it stayed down fine! Haha

I'll say it again! This forum has helped me so much! I don't know how I would get through without it! No matter what you are going through, someone else has been there and can help! It's just so awesome!

This forum is my only 'support' I was sleeved in Mexico and I think if I didn't have this forum to rely on I would have never gotten the sleeve to begin with. I have read about so many things that I've also experienced, and many things (thankfully) I have not yet experienced. Thankfully if it's good bad or ugly you can find it here :)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
