I'm freaking out- 2 surgeries 1 month (ladies)

Recommended Posts

I went to my gyn because I have been having pain on my right side. I noticed the pain a day or two before my lap band surgery which was on 12/15, when I was having sex I had gotten a sharp pain on my right side. I went ahead with the surgery and the preop tests showed that everything was fine- it doesn't check for ovarian problems. I had my surgery and I recovered pretty quickly. But the pain on my right side has gotten worse. It's gotten to the point that when i sneeze cough laugh or go to the bathroom- that the pain comes) Today when I went to my gyn she decided to do an ultrasound b/c when she did the touch test she felt something. They did the ultrasound and I have a huge cyst. She wanted to operate today (she knew about my other surgery) but my mother is in Vegas my boyfriend is in Florida and I'm not ready. I have to go tuesday to make an appointment. The dr said i need to take it easy b/c stress to my body can cause it to rupture. I have to go under anestesia and have another laproscopic surgery. I had my gallbladder out 6 years ago, I had the lapband surgery two and a half weeks ago. This will be 2 surgeries in one month. To make matters worse I told my employer that I was having a cyst removed when i got the lapband surgery and now I really need to get it done. I may need to file for short term disability- which my hr dept was trying to get me to do when I went for the lap band. Instead of using std i just used my sick time and I'm running out of days. I may have to come clean to my human resource specialist about my surgeries/ If i'm not mistaken by law she cannot tell my managers about the details. But does anybody know for sure?:cry

Why don't you just let them know that you are having further complications and another surgery will need to be done. Frankly, your medical records are your business only and the HIPPA law (sp?) protects us from sharing our medical records. They cannot legally ask you "why" you are having surgery. And you should be protected under the FMLA leave act.

I would just let the HR person know that you are having complications and the doctor has discovered additional surgery is needed, and leave it at that.

I wish you the best! Sounds very painful.

Dont worry about having 2 surgeries in 1 month. I had an appointment sept 7 to have a gyno procedure done where they heated up the lining of my uterus and sucked it all out. I was but to sleep with general anysthisia. I was home for 1 week and got the call that my lap band surgery was moved up just week away. That gave me 2 weeks between surgeries and I had no problems.

Both the Dr's and anysthisia Dr's agreed that as long as I had not complications with anysthisia then I would be ok to go thru it again. Just express your concerns to your Dr and I am sure everything will be ok.

Good luck---

Oh and about what to tell your work, they have not legal right to ask what you are having done. Just tell them you have to have more gynicological surgery.

Good luck,

I wouldn't worry about 2 surgeries in 1 month either. I wouldn't come clean though. I would tell them that they didn't get all the cyst out and they need to reoperate. I would suspect your surgery will not lay you up too long . Best of luck to you.

I had a general and gyno surgery only 2 weeks after my lap band, NO PROBLEM. Don't worry.

Hugs, that IS a lot to think about.

I feel so wonderful, I am so glad I did both surgeries, and I got to heal from them both at the same time. I swear I should be a lab rat, I felt just fine. Hope you do too.

If you do not want to tell anyone---don't. Go into your HR office, and tell them that you thought it would be taken care of with one surgery and sick time, but it is in fact going to entail another surgery with a possibly longer recovery time, and you would like to file for your STD. You should be able to fax the forms in yourself, and no one else needs to see them.

As for the 2 laproscopic prcedures so close together, as long as you are healthy, I see no issues. Be sure to have enough Protein on hand, it will help the healing. Let the family pamper you--it helps them to help you--don't forget that!

Take it easy, and rest when you can until you get in to get that taken care of!! A burst cyst is very painful!

Keep us posted on how you are doing!

Kat

I agree with everyone else don't tell about the surgery. And i want to ditto what was already said, be very careful not to let the cyst burst. I had a large cyst that burst and it was the most painful thing in the world. I went into the er and they immediatly started preping me for emergency surgery, luckily the surgeon wanted an ultrasound before they operated and they found that the cyst had burst. So please be very careful.

I have been on a medical leave from my job (starting last thurs) the cyst was larger than larger than a grapefruit on my and my ovary needed to be removed (which my doctor never warned me of the possibility of potentially losing an ovary nor did she pick up the cyst this past year- in which I have had 5 dr visits) But that is besides the point. Everthing worked out with taking time off and Im feeling well.

Oh my goodness this sounds like me in 1987. Exactly. My cyst was hidden behind my left ovary because it had grown and twisted itself around my tube. Painful. I lost my ovary and it's just one of those things that once they get in there they don't really know what they are dealing with. My ovary was toxic to my body at the point they recovered and removed it. I am so glad you found the source of that pain, and I'm guessing you have had it on and off for years, no rhyme nor reason just came and went and occasional pain during sex.

Get well soon.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
