5 days post op - heart palpitations & weakness

Recommended Posts

I'm 5 days post op and I'm a little distressed as I am having heart palpitations (all the time) and I've been feeling really weak. My doc still has me on just flat 7-up, tea & Water (no protein). And now for TMI... I have had heavy menstruation the last three days and really bad diarrhea. I can't get hold of my Doc and I'm a little concerned. Any advice?

My temp is normal, urinating normally (reasonably often) and I don't have any unusual pain.

Heart palpitations can be a serious problem, and should be checked asap by a dr or in the er. I find it odd that they don't have you doing any Protein yet as well as the flat 7up since even flat 7up has some carbonation which i wouldn't think would be good for you healing stomach lining. But if you can't get a hold of your own dr, you should go to the e.r. to get the palpitation checked.

Agreed with all of this - please get to a doctor today.

Never heard of 7-up post-op liquid diet. If I were you I would drink something like Gatorade and go to the ER...did you have palpitations/ heart issues pre-op??

I'm so sorry! I agree with the others, please go to an ER if you can't see your regular Dr. May i ask who did your surgery? I haven't heard of your diet plan/ no Protein or 7 UP before.

Thanks for your response! I really appreciate it. I am an Australian that lives in Dubai, my surgeon insists that this is all you can have for the first 8 days. My husband is telling me that I'm a hypochondriac (which is sometimes true) and that I will be fine. So I don't want to be over dramatic.

Please go to the ER better to be a safe hypochondriac. Have you passed gas yet? Regardless go get checked out and let us know how it went. Some drs feel they know more than you, but I beg to differ, you know your body better than anyone.

Can't hurt to get checked out. A lot of this cause palpitations however if you've never experienced them preop they could mean something serious. Sometimes you can have an electrolyte imbalance and I've heard palps can be an indicator. Not saying that's what's wrong but it could be. Good luck and keep us posted.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
