Since all of this is new to me, what exactly does a leak test entail?

Lol! Dr Kim does the leak test the next morning. You sip contrast, its yellow sweet & bitter in radiology & they take images of the contrast going down. It lasts maybe 5 minutes. I did get sick from the contrast once I got back to my room. But I didn't care cause I could brush my teeth & DRINK!!

It's not pleasant but it puts you closer to liquid so you really don't care.

Hmmm' date=' so he is leaving Baylor TC all together or only for those with UHC?? I have Aetna and was told my surgery would be at Baylor TC. I'm also under the impression that Dr Holden will be performing mine so maybe it's different with her.[/quote']

I don't know that he's leaving TC altogether. Just that with UHC I couldn't go there after the end of August. Initially I was going to have my procedure at Forest Park Medical but after I went there for my EGD he stopped doing surgeries there too. Seems weird for him to be moving around so much but I'm not about to start over with another surgeon at this point!!

I guess all my barium swallows with my band prepared me for this. Even though I didn't get my sleeve initially I still had the no-drinking restriction and had to do the swallow. It wasn't bad but I was sure glad to get it over with so I could drink! They brought me a tiny measuring cup and some propel Water and wanted me to measure and record what I was drinking. I still had my full sized tummy so I downed that bottle in about 45 seconds and asked for another.

I won't lie- my mouth got SO dry and they wouldn't let me use the spray I brought. At one point I ran my hand under the faucet and put my fingers in my mouth. It helped SO much but I was so scared they would storm in my room because they would know lol!!

Really!? So if he's not with Aetna and not going to be with UHC... That's a lot of patients he won't be able to see!!

Since he's one of the Dr/owners at TC he might just work privately out of there. I got that letter in the mail saying he was going out of network on a Friday & was freaking out till Monday when I called them. But they said I was with Dr Holden so it wouldn't be an issue & it was covered. Maybe I can find out the scoop when I go for my post op appt Thursday.

I freaked as well when I go the letter. When I went there last week, they said he was out of network only for surgeries. I could still go there for my follow ups.

Makes me wonder why he is changing his compatibility with certain insurances?? Happy to hear that Dr Holden will remain with Aetna. Due to previous surgeries for myself this year, we have met out OOP with Aetna so my surgery will be paid for! (happy dance time) Just have to make sure it's done before the end of the year!

I asked at the office. I was told the insurance company (UHC in my case) was trying to tell him how to treat his patients, what kind of supplies to use, what his course of treatment should be. He didn't agree that their way was better so he opted to leave the network.

Oh wow! Yeah good for him! Hopefully people will still be able to use him, I really have been impressed & loved the staff.

I was sleeved 9 months ago by Dr. Holden. She also fixed a hiatal hernia and I have not had any acid issues since! Trophy Club was top notch! I was the first surgery and after my leak test the next morning I was dressed and ready to go and was discharged that afternoon so I spent one night. Dr. Kim's staff is top notch and when I go in for my checkups they answer all my questions and are supportive. I have lost 70 lbs and 5 sizes and have 10 more lbs to go. Best thing I have ever done!

Sent from my iPhone using VST

This is SOOOOOOOOOOO exciting to hear! I also had a hiatal hernia she found while in there and I've had horrible acid reflux for years. I don't have any medical issues right now except that and I will be so glad when its gone. Even bread would give me heartburn.

For those of you that had your surgery at Baylor Trophy Club and more specifically by Dr Holden, how soon did they allow you to have ice chips and get you up to walk? As far as pain control were you on morphing pump or did you have to request pain medicine? Do they send you home with a script for pain medicine or do you really not need it once you leave the hospital? I currently take quite a few medicines each day and wondering how that works since you are only on liquids afterwards. Any light you can share would be appreciated.

Nothing by mouth till after your swallow test at 8am the next morning.

You start walking as soon as you get to your room & every 2 hours after.

No morphine pump but they are constantly asking you to rate your pain & will give you anything if you ask.

At your last class, I think they call it b university, you get a script for liquid hydrocodone. They suggest you bring it with you to surgery for the way home just incase.

They will give you liquid scripts if you need them. One of mine I can swallow, along with the pepcid they have you taking, & my other one is a capsule I mix with a little Protein drink in the am & shot & swallow.

Once I got home I only took my pain meds at night for 4-5 days. And they may or may not give you a blood thinner script. For some reason they gave me one & its a shot I give myself in the stomach once a day for 10 days, its not bad though.

Do you have a date yet?

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
